Wirelss Remote View?

Hey guys,

I'm actually on a set right now, preparing to shoot something within the hour, and we're in a very tight, crammed area with too many wires. I have Remote Viewing set up with the 7D going into my Macbook Pro as the playback monitor. I thougth I read once that I coudl do this wireless somehow? That there was a way to get the camera to pick up the internet signal and patch into the remote view from a network.

Am I talking out of my ass here, or is this possible?

I'm actually looking for something similar.

We're shooting a feature film in may and july, and for the exteriors which we'll shoot in July, we need something that isn't only wireless but also battery driven.

Here's the thing: We've got a steadicam operator who's got a monitor of his own so that's fine. I've also invested 140 bucks in a cheap Denver 7 inch TV monitor designed for cars, but it's got an AV in and works fine with the Canon 7D.
It works on AC, 12V or 10 AA-batteries. We're filming this far north so the summer nights are so bright we won't need extra lighting for the exteriors, even for night shooting.

I'm trying to make things flow as easy as possible here, by eliminating any kind of extra power source. If I can just find a battery driven wireless video transmitter/reciever with a common AV plug, that's all I really need.

So far, all I've seen need a power socket. I'm thinking of just finding someone who could build me an easy solution to this problem.

That looks quite nice indeed. Ty for link.

It does speciylry accEss to live view.

Wireless USB?

No, what I'm saying is, it would cut out the need even to have the USB. Instead, it would just be networked to the laptop, so what I see on the LCD, is what I see on the Remote View screen on my Macbook Pro.

Of course, this only works if the 7D has network wireless capabilities. Does it? I thought I read this somewhere.

Maybe newer cameras, I know that a built-I'm witless feature has been aloes about and mentined in several camera articles. It looks like the link above is the closest option.

No I think you're refering to the wft-e5 that JoeC linked to.

I've already checked that out, because I thought at one point about using a laptop as a battery driven wireless remote monitor.

That's not what the wft-e5 is for though. It's mainly (or even only) for still photography, like say you're shooting stills for a sport event at a stadium that has wifi - you could send your images straight from the camera to an ftp with the wft-e5, or I think you could even make your own wireless network to your laptop.

but you'd control it through your web browser, and it's for uploading or downloading stills only.

Edit: I guess another use for the wft-e5 would be if you're Spider-Man, and you stick your 7D to a wall with web and use any kind of timer or remote device to take stills of yourself beating up thugs, you could send them via ftp to the Daily Bugle by remote.

But that would only be relevant if you're Spider-Man, and you might need to bring a laptop with wifi.
