Wireless Slot Question

Hi,
I'm getting some quotes on the Lectrosonics SR dual-channel
receiver. One company is suggesting I need the SR5ap (which has
a wart on it for a second audio connector). Isn't the HPX300 slot
a stereo slot (as I see a WR1 and WR2 audio selector).??

Thanks,
jeff

The HPX300 slot is selectable for either single or dual channel. Keep in mind though when using it in Dual channel mode the Lectrosonics unit is not funtioning in Diversity mode.

Hey Jeff, when you choose your Lectro - would you mind posting which model you went with, where your purchased it and what you paid? I'm trying to find a decent deal on this mic but everything I've found thus far is ridiculously expensive. I know Lectro = quality, but c'mon!

Hi Jan, all.

I just wanted to point out that the SR receiver (all versions, including SR, SR5p, SRA, SRA5p) have two different operational modes: dual channel with antenna phase diversity, and single channel with ratio diversity.

In other words, either way, the receiver is using diversity (both antennas contribute to reception) but the ratio diversity method is slightly better in some situations but requires two receiver channels to operate.

To answer the OP's question: the SRA is the one you need - you don't need the version with the "wart" as you call it. The Panasonic HPX300 has both audio channels accessible in the slot connector.

Does anyone have experience with Azden's 1200 series slot-in receiver? It's about $1,200 for the receiver AND mic - almost 1/3 the price of a Lectro system - but it's only single channel. That would actually be OK with me, but I have little to no knowledge of Azden and can't find any reviews for this system online.

I used an Azden slot-in on an SDX900 awhile back. I wasn't impressed with the build quality, sound quality, or range of unit.

Well, lectros aren't perfect either. I just had to send off one of my 411As for warranty work (warranty almost up) because the backlight on the LCD quit working. They are the best sounding wireless's I've ever used though. When I can afford it I will be buying the SR and probably a couple LMa transmitters as a wireless hop for my SD442 mixer.

Hi All,
Thanks for the help and clarification.

I went with the SRA-470 dual-channel receiver with the
SRUNI adaptor.

Due to cost considerations (and the fact that we do interviews at
less than about 25 feet (at most)) I went with the LMA transmitters
and the M152 Lavs.

After having worked with a couple of retailers, you're not going to find a lot
of wiggle room on price.

I got mine via Pro Sound Services (in NYC) which was one of the dealers
recommended by Lectrosonics. They were very good and made sure they
understood what I wanted to do and that the configuration / frequency bands
would work for me.

Mounting the SRA-470 was very straightforward .. you just slap the
DB25 adaptor on the bottom, put in two small screws. Take the small
slot cover off the 300, put the UNI mount on the 470 .. slide into place,
and then put the screws in.

Setting the frequencies on the LMA's was a little more time consuming
as my +40 eyes were struggling to make out the little arrows on the
rotary switches .. and that you need to give each unit enough frequency
separation to read well. But, once dialed in, it's quite good and markedly
less noisy than the Sennheisers I was using (now only useful as Google
phone disruptors).

I can't give any field reports (yet) as I just got them .. but I'll report back
if there's anything noteworthy about the pairing of the Lectrosonics and
the HPX300 .. so far, it is working as advertised.

I can say that I am pleased with the customer service from both Pro Sound
and Lectro.

Per your request, I've attached the invoice.

Thanks again for your info (Jan and Karl) .. both were very helpful.

Do you have any pictures of the install. I'm particularly interested in the antennas. Do they look like they'll stand up to repeated on/off when removing them to put the camera into a bag (like a PortaBrace)? Thanks! :)

the antennas and screw mounts appear very durable.
there is enough flex in the antennas that it may
not be necessary to remove them (depending on
the bag. I'm using an ENT Storm case and its tight
enough that i've removed them.
So time will tell. The SRA is built like a tank
though

I have a question about the levels of channel 3 and four, in the manual it says that you cannot manually adjust these channels. You can only switch between limiter/ auto gain and no limiter/ auto gain.

How are you setting levels for the receiver? in the unit?

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Yes, that's correct. When
you switch the inputs 1 and 2 to W/L, then the volume controls (1 and 2)
control the wireless volume levels.

3 and 4 are un-attenuated. Not a big deal for us because we're coming
out of a mixer and are using the mixer setting to attenuate the levels.

Well, I recently ordered my Lectrosonics package - the SRa slot receiver and SMa transmitter. I've spent a bundle but Lectro has proved to be worth it in the past. Hopefully it's a worthy investment this time around as well. I'll post pictures and a review when I receive it.

I've been loving my SR receiver for a long time. I posted this picture a while ago:

I notice that the guy who attached his invoice (PDF) had the block 470... this is the block I originally ordered and is the one in this picture... I had terrible problems in the NYC area with block 470 - so I don't recommend that frequency to anyone in this area. I would scan for clear frequencies, and set it, then 20 minutes later someone was broadcasting on my frequency. It happened at least 6 times.... Professional Sound Services exchanged my whole setup (including two transmitters) for a new frequency range. They are the best!

davideo - did you get the SMa transmitters or others? I only went with one for now since I rarely need more than one mic on a shoot. There's a rental house here in town that will rent me another transmitter on the cheap if I need it - seemed like a good deal. Anyway, glad to hear you like your setup - it's not inexpensive! ;) I went with block 20 - per Lectro's advice - for the Denver metro area.

mule - glad you like your Azden. I considered it but had several of my colleagues - as well as posts on web forums - that strongly said to avoid that system. Sure would've been cheaper...

When I exchanged the block 470 for my new one, I upgraded (by paying the difference) and got the SMQV transmitter, which has the 3 output levels (50mW, 100 + 250), 2 AA batteries plus a removable antenna, and I also got a plug-on HM transmitter. For the SMQV I use a Tram TR-50 mic since I've had good luck with those in the past.

I also purchased the Lectrosonics SRa receiver along with a pair of the Lectro UM400a transmitters.

I do as much audio work as I do camera work, so I use the SRa with my HPX300 and also in my audio bag along side 2 other Lectro wireless systems. The SRa works great for when I need to do wireless audio to camera from my audio guy's mixer bag. That way he doesn't have to be tethered to me via a breakaway cable.

I also went with block 20 (I'm in the Chicagoland area).

I have a Sony WRR-855B, it's a Sony so slot-in. Is there an adapter to go from slot-in to unislot? Would be great to be able to use this set with the HPX300.
