Wireless Mics for XH-A1?

Hello there.
I am doing a couple weddings and I want to mic the groom.
Any good idea's for a cheap but descent wireless mic to work with my XH-A1?

Thanks much!

I would highly reccomend the G2. This is an area where you don't want to cut corners. I had a Samson setup before that saved me a few bucks.

I have done sevral side by side tests with both systems and there is really no comparison. The G2 is lightyears better in my opinion. If I had spent a little more in the beginning, I would have two great mics instead of one great one and a very mediocre Samson.

Thank you for your help! I am going with the
Sennheiser Evolution G2 100 Series Camera mounted $550
Is this a good one to choose?

The reason I ask is because I'll buy it today if it is.

If its in your budget then its the best choice at that price. James, just be aware the included mic isnt superb and trading up to a countryman EMW like sacksnack is a good way to go. But thats going to boos t the $. Try the included mic first and see if it suits your purpose.

Could I buy just the receiver and the countryman EMW together anywhere? If so how much would that run me. I would much rather get better quality now.

unofortunately, no, you can't get the emw included in a new g2 kit... that i'm aware of anyway.

as everyone said so far, the included me2's and me4's are really not up to par, but give them a try. i used me2's for over a year before i sold them on ebay and upgraded to a couple of cos11's, and i've never looked back. the emw's, or tram 50's, are a pretty nice, relatively inexpensive upgrade -- just make sure to pick up the ones specifically wired for whichever transmitter/receiver setup you decide to use.

I'm also thinking of getting the G2. Could you elaborate in what way the countryman EMW is better than the sennheiser? More sensitve? Less rubbing noise? Wide frequency response? Water proof? Unbreakable?

Can someone tell me what the cheapest and best Wireless microphone is? I have a very low budget, and need the best I can get for the price. I also wanna do someones wedding, by budget is under $300.

Actually, does anyone know if 1 G2 transmitter can generally get both the groom and the bride at a wedding if its connected on the bride say? I think each one goes for about 300-400.

Make sure you don't buy band C. FCC is selling that block (700Mhz) of spectrum for other purpose, so wireless mic at that frequency will no longer be allowed.

Already I see some people on ebay selling $2000 wireless mic (lectrosonic) at that frequency with no warning. I suspect people would continue to use their 700Mhz wireless mic even if illegal.

I getting more and more into doing weddings. Currently using a cheap wireless setup. What would be the best way to link 2 Cameras ( 1 canon xh a1 and 1 Panasonic (cheapy 3ccd)) to one body back. If i was going to buy one complete G2 set up for my canon and then purchase another receiver for the panasonic will it be able to run off the same body pack with out any noise interference.

Another strong vote for the G2. I still use the stock mic with little complaints, although I hear what people are saying re: the Countryman.

Don't skimp out on this purchase. $500 may seem like a lot, but when you buy a crappy lavalier and have to purchase something better a year later, you'll understand. I've got a POS Audio Technica shotgun mic that's pretty much useless, I should have thrown down more cash for a better mic.

Back to the G2. I use mine for a lot more than just weddings. Interviews, corporate work and such.

FilmMakerr: I'm not sure if this answers your question, but I usually put the mic on the groom and it picks up the bride no problemo. Unless she's really softspoken, in which case I just ride the audio on the camera.

Yikes, I wish I was well aware of this last year when I bought my setup. (740-776MHz) I got this from the FCC site:

The 700 MHz Band comprises 108 megahertz of spectrum from 698-806 MHz and is designated for commercial and public safety uses. Currently, this spectrum is occupied by TV broadcasters in Channels 52-69. Congress has directed that TV broadcasters transition to digital broadcast technology and vacate the spectrum in order to accommodate wireless commercial and public safety uses of the spectrum.

So I guess this is in relation to the upcoming DTV transition in 2009? Or am I wrong? I'll be curious to see where this block goes to when it's sold by the FCC.

yes, you can do this. Let me know if you have any other questions :) tallrd@fullcompass.com

Yes, makes sense. I've even had a tip of putting the mic on the sinister.
