C100: Wireless HDMI to external recorder.

Has any one made any experiments with sending the HDMI signal to an external recorder?

I would like to reduce bulk by not attaching an external recorder to the C100.

I am thinking of using an Ayrius Aries Pro (Pretty much identical to Paralinx Arrow) and sending the signal to a Pix 220i, Odyssey 7 or Atmos Samurai 2.

This way the monitor could also double as a wireless directors monitor + I get a better codec to grade.

Any thoughts?

I borrowed a similar one to that one time and it was OK at best for a second monitor, absolutely useless for recording. The second review on Amazon goes into a lot of the reasons why (lossy, compression artifacts, etc.)

Even much higher priced units like these switronic's http://www.switronix.com/products?page=shop.browse&category_id=49 really only promise they are good for monitoring.

I do think there are some that would work for recording, I recall seeing several booths at NAB with this sort of solution, but again they were much pricier than the unit you mentioned.

You should never consider "wireless" feed to a recorder if you are working on something that you want to use for editing. I would only consider it good enough for monitoring and video assist. You are going to pay the same or more for a reliable system and even the best have problems at times (and you never know when). I have rented the best systems out there and they work until they don't. Just accept that you bought a C100 and you are going to have to rig the recorder and live with it. Even then I would always record backup in camera on the SD cards.

If you just want wireless for a directors feed then the Paralinx is the best value in a quality HDMI recorder. Don't take a chance on important footage.
