Okay, this is really, really irritating, but my laptop won't successfully install the XHA1 as a device. Plug it in, turn it on, the "found new hardware" wizard comes up, it identifies it as an XHA1, and then asks if it should connect to the net to find a driver.
It fails every time. Which means the device never gets installed, which means I can't see it in Vegas or DV Rack HD or any other app.
This is on WinXP Pro, SP2.
I have an older laptop that installed just fine (it's running WinXP MCE), but that system is way too slow to handle the HDV 1080 mode of the XHA1.
On the WinXP Pro system, it brings up the little pop-up thought bubble in the lower right to say "new hardware found" and then "canon xha1", and then it fails to go any further, instead bringing up the "where's the driver" wizard. but when it successfully installed on the older WinXP MCE system it brought up the "canon xha1" bubble, and then brought up an "av/c subunit" and other related bubbles for devices, and installed automatically -- no need for the "where's the driver" wizard.. So apparently the WinXP Pro system is failing when it tries to register the av/c subunit part.
There is no driver disk in the installation package, so I can't just tell it to install from disk. And there is no downloadable driver on the Canon site that I can find.
So -- anybody got any suggestions on how to get this to work? Thanks...
