I use Vegas, and I was experimenting all day with the different rendering formats and codecs. I cant decide what I like so I figured Id get some ideas from the people here.

What format (AVI, MOV etc) and what Codec do you use when rendering in HD?

In HD I get skips and blotchy playback on my computer. I dont have a blu-ray burner yet to test out on so I cant tell what is good.

I use both WMV and MOV (H.264).

I see no clear winner in terms of quality, I've had video where each delivered noticeably better video than the other at essentially identical settings (resolution and bitrate).

I use Raylight Green or Blue while editing in Vegas, and output for distribution using Ogg Theora. It offers compression approx the same as Xvid or the other Mpeg4 codecs, but without the patent issues to deal with.

I use MeGUI which references x264 and neros AAC codec to make .mp4 files

Pros:
No gamma changes
best h.264 software encoding quailty
FREE

Cons:
Can be confusing if you don't understand compression
compatibility can be an issue with quicktime if you do not stick to the quicktime settings.
