Windows 7 + GH1 playback

I'm playing the gh1 footages straight without pulldown with Windows 7. Very nice colors and also has thumbbnails. Very satisfying. No interlaced lines showing either.
But sometimes the movements are jumpy at the start of the clips.
Dumb question. Using 24p pulldown should fix this. And it would also increase in size. My question is would 24p pulldown even improve the colors and clarity with the gh1 footages by doing the pulldown?
 
removing pulldown won't make the playback any better. it depends on your machine. however, windows 7 does a great job at playing back .mts files. some applications do affect the color and luma when removing pulldown, but i've never used them. cineform does good and it doesn't affect anything. again depending application it will increase in size. it won't necessarily improve your colors and clarity, but it's necessary to remove pulldown if you want 24p and to be able to edit your files.

Thanks for your advice. My machine is a quad core with 4gb ram. You think upgrading to 8gb would do the trick? I mean the jumpiness @ start of some clips.

I just like archiving my clips. Nothing serious.
Avoiding extra softwares and avoiding adding space to my harddrive is a plus for me.

The WMP is streaming the video data from your disk into memory and then playing it. So getting more memory won't help the initial playback, but getting a faster disk might do the trick. What disk does your system have?

noirist has the right idea. what's your hdd speed? i'm running 4ghz core 2 duo and only 4gb or ram and don't have any stuttering at the beginning of the clip.
 
My disk is the usual 7200 RPM TOSHIBA 750GB SATA II .
Also noticed the mouse stutters/ Vimeo slower than xp.
How do i turn off some accessories with this new OS?

Tried to turn off many cool aero stuff. Noticed stuttering with increased CPU usage near redline.
Could this be a bacd CPU?

Then you'd benefit from a 10k RPM Western Digital Velociraptor or if you can afford it, an Intel X25-M G2 SSD disk. For the latter, make sure that it's a second generation drive (the part number will have a G2 near the end).

well your hdd is fine it seems. what do you mean your mouse stutters/vimeo slower than xp? i don't understand.

what accessories do you want to turn off? i'm running everything there is but aero and don't have any issues playing avchd footage.

it may be quad core, but what's the speed of your core(s)? avchd wasn't written, nor was win7 media to utilize all 4 cores...it's going to run off a single thread. youre using 64bit win 7 right?
 
I've been watching the cpu gadget when i open the windows player. (By the way the clips are straight from the card copied to the HDD.)
The needle jumps close to the red mark @ the start when i start playing clips in windows player. The mouse moves choppy. Not smooth. The same for the video clips. Then everything is fine again. And the cpu gadget is back to normal. Everything seems slower than xp pro. So i thought turning off the aero accessorieswould make windows 7 run faster/smoother. Now it looks bare and bland. Helped just a little bit.
 
you still didn't list your cpu speed. you still didn't say whether or not it's 64bit. aero is going to have little to no affect on your clips. what's your graphics card?

I have the AMD Phenom 3.2ghz quad core.
And the MSI RX3850-MSI RX3850-T2D512E OC Radeon HD 3850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16

Also, I'm using a 26in lcd along with a 20in lcd.
 
32 bit or 64bit win 7? there should be no reason why you have any lag at all at any time. secondly, you retail copy or beta? i'm still using beta build 7201 and it runs fine.
 
well now it just got interesting. i wish i could see it first hand as my computer is at least equal to yours, minus having 4cores and it's a pentium. and there's not one bit of stutter. i wonder if a pentium has the ability to playback avchd files better. can you tell me from task mgr what % your cpu is using during playback? also, what's your vidcard? maybe a little help from your gpu could be an issue.
 
Correction, i had this computer 2years ago. It was AMD 9850 @ 2.5Ghz, they change so fast. And video card MSI Radeon 512mb pci-e 2.0. I checked Tom's Hardware where somebody yanked his sound card and cured the problm. I tried and didn't work. I put all the cool aero back. All still the same. I'm really fond of this OS along with the GH1. Play back is really nice. I think i'll just invest on another computer. Intel this time. Thanks for that tip!!!! But i have a feeling as more folk go windows 7. They might encounter this. So if anyone has more tips, please write back.

The cpu usage jumps up to 60% as i open big files.
I connected my old storage hard drive to windows7 and there was no prblm at all.
I noticed the smaller stadard video plays easily with no stutter. The HDV files smoother, almost no stutter @ start. Canon Rebel samples easy and smooth. No stutter. Look pretty good by the way. SD9 AVCHD slightly stutter @ start. GH1 most demanding. I think i just need a new computer. But my new problm now is windows 7 doesn't play the neoscene AVI files. only sounds.
 
No alarm. Just downloaded neoplayer. Everything is smooth. No stutters. I'll probably use nescene and solve the issue. To check back.
