will you get a nikon d400?

If they introduced a faster frame rate like 30P or 60P then I would entertain it, however 1080P & 720P would both exhibit the jello effect at 24P. I don't have a problem with the D90's exposure thanks to the latching AE-L button :)

Like many others, I would love to see a 1080p 24p SLR with the full-frame format and low-light sensitivity of the 5d.

I wonder if nikon has taken on board the wish list following the grunts over the d90 regarding controlling exposure.?

As well as hopefully including a better video codec. The D90 makes some great motion picture images but the macro blocking is very distracting. The Nikon DSLR video mode needs a stronger codec incase the inevitable Canon Digital Rebel upgrade comes out this spring or summer with some form of AVC-HD and 24p?

I'm looking to get a DSLR later this winter or by springtime, so if nothing else comes out that is better I'll most likely get a D90. This D400 though, if true, would be a better choice though.

24P, 30P, 48P, AND 60P

Then... Maybe fo sho!

It would be nice but I doubt it will have all those frame rate options. 24p is paramount, and of course 60p would be great for slo-mo. Anything else is just gravy.

D400 needs to be:

Full Frame (36x24 mm) , 1080p @ 24fps, A better Codec... maybe AVC-HD (But ideally Mpeg2), Mic Input,

And no more than 3k for body.

scratch that silly mic input talk. i'd be fine with 720 as long as it had either a better codec or different codec all together.

I hope is 1080p, 24fps and better codec. The 1080 should give it a better image. I doubt it will be a full 35mm frame like the 5d, more like APS size. Eliminating the stair stepping has to be done. Full manual controls should be a Nikon priority to implement as they don't have a video business of their own to jeopardize. I can't wait to find out how good this new version will be this time around.

the full manual controls probably won't happen for some time to come. i just dont think it's all the possible for camera's to operate like film just yet. they could maybe implement the shutter control, but iso will stay automatic. and they won't have variable frame rates either. nikon is dedicated to photographers first so adding all the additional features may be great for the guys/girls in the video worlds, but their key demographics are photogs and they'll cater to them first and foremost.

There should be a way to store the aperture and shutter info dtermined by the camera for a scene and then locked to be replicated again later if need be. In case the exposure gets unlocked or the camera is turned off.

Same here. And if they need to take a few extra months to get it right then I hope they do instead of rushing it out to compete with the 5D mkII. By this time and with the higher price than the D90 a better codec and 1080p should be a given, as well as better manual controls in video mode.

It's not like Nikon has to take anything away from photographers to give us the same manual controls they get.

mjpeg is fine, it just needs to be less compressed. 1080 at the current rate of compression would be pretty ugly.

The only things they really need to fix with the D??? to make it the next best thing to film is the heavy compression, overheating, and shutter and ISO control. Everything else we can already compensate for. And unless they fix these things I'll stick with my D90.

how do you know? not one single video camera on the market that's affordable has manual controls over ISO and Shutter...why's that? and to think their only focus would be just video.

for me, iso...dont' care....can't change the iso on the RED or any other prosumer camcorder...so whoopty do for manual control over the ISO...the sensor is big enough to compensate for excellent low light, no need for the manual control over ISO...however shutter control would be great. mjpeg would be ideal, if they pushed the bitrate up. overheating is probably my biggest concern second to the bitrate.
