Will these batteries work with this camera?

Hey there.

Ill have the camera next week and someone just offered me two batteries.

All I've been told is that they are sony Li-ion Video Camera Batteries. One is the MP-QM91D, the other is the MP-QM71D. Will they work with the EX1?

My google skillz are pitiful.. Ive been trying to solve this myself for the last hour and can't work it out.

If not compatible.. any idea if they will be worth anything on ebay if I sold them on to buy another battery instead?

Any help here would be great. Cheers.

My understanding is the EX1 is using a new battery. There are no other compatible batteries at this time.

Heck, the Sony BP-U60 4 hour battery is only around $230 USD.
This seems like a good deal considering I'm used to the JVC HD100 IDX battery and charger which cost almost $900 USD.

The EX batteries are 14.4V and slightly larger than what you have. Not compatible electrically and physically :-(

It is in the works. There are 2 things that need to be done - electrical redesign for the 14V voltage, which is doable, and the new plate, which is a steep upfront effort in the $10,000-$20,000 range. Not sure if the demand for the EX 4x charger will justify this...
Your opinion?
Working on it...

Alex. steep plate cost.

If other Sony cams (soon to be released HVR-Z7?, etc), start using this new battery type, it may be worth considering a 2 or 4 battery charger, in due course.

A 2 or 4 battery charger for the EX1, maybe a wait and see situation, Alex, and thanks for your reply.

So I was wondering if their is a portable battery where I connect it to the DC plug...or whatever it is called on the back of the EX1.

The Z7 will be using well established L series 7.2V batteries accoding to the Sony literature. http://www.advance-pro.com/downloads/whatsnew/HVR-s270_z7_m35.pdf
Sony is positioning the EX batteries as a new top shelf line. Their 14.4 u60 batteries have a real fuel gauge built in with the LEDs state of charge indication. I think by switching to the higher voltage they will be able to come up with even higher capacities in the future.

I have one more solution. we can actually use a normal car battery then step up to 24V and then regulated it down to 14.4V

the principle is the same as laptop computer but it will b a bit of a mess to design this thing without knowing the actual power consumption
