Will the HVX200 record camera info like Focus, zoom and aprt, to the P2 for later use

I am wondering if the HVX200 will record camera info to the p2 card, like focus, zoom and aperture, etc.. so that we can see it in playback as well as possibly extract the info for later use?

This would come in real handy to see what state the camera was in, and would be really useful for effects shots to know the camera's zoom and focus.

Im hoping there is a way to see the zoom in a way that is equivalent to 35mm, so I can match a 3D render to the same field of view......

Hey Jan if your reading this, is it too late to have the Focus, zoom, apreture settings saved to the p2 card in real time?

Thanks
Ben

I'd be very surprised if it does as it's already pumpin alot of data onto that disc for the image information. I think it will store your internal camera settings (gamma/matrixes etc), correct me if I'm wrong. I don't think that includes apertures/focal distances etc.....

i will have to go with a yes on this one..

and if it doesn't that is just plain dumb... the amount of data is miniscule compared to the image data.. aperture, focus, zoom, colour matrix... jsut about every camera setting could easily be stored in the metadata of the MXF file.. I am being generous here, but the amount of data would be somewhere aroud 100KB...

I certainly hope it does.. it will make matching shots easier if you don't have someone to log all the info for (like me and most of the people that do indie films).

Totally right, and I think 100K is WAY generous. If every one of those values were stored as four-byte floating-point, you'd have a whopping 16 bytes per frame of data. Easily accommodated. It would take a while to even reach 100K.

It doesn't do this, although I did submit it to Jan as a feature request for future cameras. It's very useful. I did it with Panavision, using their primo-digital lenses, and used the information to compute 3d graphics that exactly matched the DOF characteristics of the video that was shot.

Hi Graeme,

Damn that kinda sucks not being able to get that info!

Hey on a different topic since your here;

I asked this on the apple forums:
http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?14@@.68ba4ace/0

Is there a way to import traker data into motion 2 so that the data can be used as keyframe data?

Do you have any solutions to do this, or can you whip one up?

Thanks
Ben

What exactly are you trying to track, or achieve with the tracking data? There are already some very good and easy to use programs out there that can do anything from 1 to 4pt motion tracking and use that data on various composites, effects, titles etc.

Grant

I have no idea about motion track data in motion :-) Still working on getting normal plugins working in it.

As for Grant's comment on tracking data - you can't track out of focus objects, so you can't generate DOF data - that's why you need it from the camera! And also, it's more accurate coming rom the camera.

Err, my dvx shows the aperture (yes in vcr-mode and yes the same that was used to record that footage) if I play back footage on it. So why wouldn't the hvx do that?
No zoom and focus though... :(

Grant,

If I want to use the Sparkles particle emitter in motion on say a magic wand being waved around, there is no way to do this easily. I could use AE, but AE does not have the Nice Particles that are found in Motion.

I am praying Motion 3 will have trackers which would solve the problem.

Graeme,

One of the guys was saying he built a script in AE to export keyframe data into an XML file that Motion could use to import the keyframe data. Since Apple has been reworking the user forums, I dont think the person who had did this was able to post.

Im not looking to "track" out of focus objects, if that helps.

Getting the camera Lens info would be a big help in not having to make lots of notes durring effect shots on location, guess I will have to use a clap board for lens info now if Panny cant deliver such a simple thing.

The ability to get the focal lenght from a particular shot would be great.

I've been doing a lot of motion tracking and match-moving on my DVX-footage using SynthEyes. Even though this is very powerful piece of software, its ability to do accurate 3D tracking would be much assisted by having the real focal length rather than having the software guess.

Even for non-match move still shots, where footage needs to be combined with a 3d rendering or even a matte painting, this information would be useful.

I've been hoping that this would be included in the P2 metadata that I've heard mentioned. It will be very disappointing if it's not there..

Oh COOL! Another Syntheyes user! And were only a few hours away...

I'll Pm you.
