would like to know whether HVX P2 card will go with apple latest MACBOOK PRO..is there anything to be considered before going for this laptop as fa as using and editing HVX Footage ..TIA

Out of the box, probably not, but people are talking about there needing to be some kind of adapter.

It would seem that something has to be done since Apple and Pansonic have such close ties.

I have a 12" powerbook which will work just fine for transferring via firewire. If my budget will allow I might buy one of the current Powerbooks with the PCMCIA (?) slots and then upgrade to the Macbook later in the year.

It depends on your budget, but I would try and stick with Mac, but I'm now biased after switching to Mac a few years ago. I find the Macs so much more user friendly...I try and use my PC as little as possible.

I think you need to figure out what software you're going to edit with. I'm on FCP and will be for as long as I can see and that's obviously Mac only. If you use other software then your choice may be determined as well.

For more info do a search. What you're asking has been covered in many places on the site.

Welcome.

There are two things to consider: 1) the cards will not fit in the ExpressCard slot, and 2) FCP isn't going to run on it for a few months.

So if you're prepared to wait for them to release the new Intel version of FCP, and can find an ExpressCard->CardBus adapter or USB->CardBus, then it should work fine.

Good morning Barry,

I'm a member of this forum since a couple of month.
I'm very interesting in buying the new AG HVX 200 but the pal version ( I'm living in Belgium).
Neverteless, I'm working on a PC station with ADOBE PREMIER PRO and, if possible, Iwould'nt want to work with FCP, except if it can be installed on a PC work station.
So, my question, do you think that the new Intel version of FCP could be intalled on a PC station ?
If so, do you think, that the DVC PRO HC codec would be intalled with FINAL CUT PRO ?
Thank you very much for your answer.

Norbert

I sincerely doubt that Apple would make or allow FCP to work with any operating system other than their own Mac OS, and I also don't expect them to allow Mac OS to install on anything other than an Apple workstation.

Maybe they'll make the Apple workstations dual-boot capable, so you could install Windows on the Apple system?

Premiere Pro may or may not implement DV100 support. There's been some leaked .PDF going around that seems to show that DV100 is not on the new features list. You could maybe use Raylight to make Premiere Pro capable of working with DV100 footage -- go to dvfilm.com and download the Raylight alpha test version and see if you think it would work for you as an interim solution...
