I have an iPhone 4s currently with Verizon. I use it to connect via wifi to my Sony Action Cams. If I cut off phone service to it, I know I won't be able to use the phone for calls anymore but can it still connect to my cameras by wifi? Sorry for the dumb question. I'm a gadget moron.
On a similar note: will an iPhone5s be able to work with a DJI Phantom 3 via wifi without having phone service?

The 'wifi' portion of a phone is operational regardless of the 'cell phone' status, they are completely independent. That said... who knows the carrier may have required of Apple to lock that feature, but as I've had a number of ATT iPhones, they have only been locked to ATT for the 'cell phone' connectivity, and after I've moved the cell phone connectivity to the new phone, I've used the 'old' phone for Wifi only connectivity.

Without the cellular service activated, it's essentially an iPod Touch.

One reason there's still a relatively healthy market for used iPhone models that are a little older is that they are cheap Internet devices for those who need Internet/email access but cannot afford a bigger tablet or computer. I sold my 4S on ebay a couple months ago and got nearly 4x what Verizon was offering me for it.
