GH3 WiFi on the GH3. How is it and will it take up a lot of bandwidth?

I have a maybe stupid question. I'm doubting about buying a new (smart) phone that can operate as a WIFI monitor / remote for the GH3.

Will it takes up 'bandwidth' while monitoring the GH3 through WIFI? It is actually 'downloading' the video to be able to display it, not?
In that case, I should probably go for an abonnement with unlimited internet, which is costly.

Does anyone know this?

Also, did anyone use this WIFI function already? And how is it?

It works good on my ipad mini. You dont have to use your data plan to watch photo on your smart phone/tablet. You have direct connect through wifi with no access point. It is the same like you connect two phones via bluetooth.

That sounds great!

I dont understand it though. It doesnt work through bluetooth, but through wifi. That is an 'internet' connection not? Does the GH3 'generate' an internet connection?

Yes, it generates it's own wifi network. Similar to Eye-Fi wireless SD cards.

Wifi and internet are two completely different things. A wireless network connection is made between multiple devices of any kind in any situation, and does not have to have an additional connection to an ISP. Local connections between computers are possible and are still called "wifi".

Also, if you connect you phone to the wireless internet at Starbucks it doesn't come off of your bandwidth allocation. That only counts if you're using the network provided by your carrier, the 3G or 4G signal, which is a different system.

No need to abominate with an Internet provider... The WIFI devices, with the appropriate app in your phone/pad, will communicate via an independent connection directly from the camera to the phone/pad.

The bandwidth for WIFI allows for reasonably high speed if the devices are 'close' to each other.

1 more question:

Can you view the GH3 'live view' on a full screen? Then the phone's 4.8 inch screen could operate as a framing 'field monitor' on personal small shoots :)

Just think of it as radio, which is what it is (albeit digital radio).

I've been using the wifi system on the little Sony HDR-AS15 and it actually works fine, pretty limited range though.

No. The preview locks up when recording.

It doesn't even need to be phone to control the GH3 it could be an an iPod Touch or a WiFi only iPad.

Hmm that sucks. But can you view the framing on a full screen, before recording? :D I saw a video of someone demonstrating the wifi function and on the phone the live view of the camera was in a small screen. Is it possible to go to full screen? (not recording, just setting up the frame)
