Widespread HVX Availability

The idea of Apple making a "promise" to deliver a 3GHz G5 in 2004 is one thing. (I think it was more like "this is what we hope to do") Beginning to take customer's money knowing full well they wouldn't be able to deliver is another. Then not responding in any way when customers begin to complain is even worse.

That's my perspective.

I'm not expecting Panasonic to ship my camera tomorrow - I can wait. The point is that Panasonic's silence is beyond deafening. It is disrespectful of customers that have given them a big vote of approval and trust to the tune of $7200.00 in my case.
 
I Agree...Panasonic, come out of the shadows and don't give us this answer either,

"We regret to inform that the HVX is delayed because of QC issues and while we anticipate a speedy recovery, we hope to resume shipping by the first week of February."

I don't think Steve Jobs said anything about hope. But I don't think it makes a difference.

But the thing to remember is... PANASONIC DIDN'T TAKE ANYONE'S MONEY. Some dealers did. I don't think the dealers have given the money to Panasonic yet...
 
The Panasonic people know all of these preorders are sitting out there while they offer no explanation.

I'm not a dealer but I imagine that Panasonic requires their dealers to abide by certain guidelines. If they begin to take orders for a non-existant (or semi-existant) product the manufacturer can put a stop to it.
 
Do they know? I s'pose, I s'pose. I guess I've just been through this too many times before to be surprised...
 
ullanta, you sound like a PC / Windows user. (nudge nudge) It is amazing what a PC user can tolerate.

Seriously though, I've spent a lot of time reading this board and many of you really know your stuff. I hope to get my HVX soon so I can contribute more than gripes.

Ha! Really?

I guess I'm at both extremes, where a Windoze PC would be the center... I use Mac and Linux.

Linux is fun 'cause you always know the answer... when can you capture a DVCProHD stream? When you write it!

And the Mac stuff... just... works...?

As for waiting... well... it was like 25 years between "Zen nd the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" and "Lila", huh?

So are you calling me a liar? What is an "untruth" but a lie?

When you emailed me today, and asked me what number the cameras were at, I told you "we are still at #1", which means we shipped ONE camera to Jay, right here on the forum, something that has been discussed to death. The other 2 went in rentals. We have not received any more cameras.

Honestly, I am truly surprised by you.
 
Rush... People are crazy over it... and I'm sure people get whirling up a head of steam and blame it on dealers all the time... Must be similar to the gas shortage in the 70's.. except this is HD and that was... Well anyway.

I know I've been waiting a year so more time is okay.. except it is costing me gigs. If this camera were here now I could be riding all week in a Daytona 500 racecar.. I could be in pit row.. the in-field and then for the race. IT not being here probably just cost me 5K in work. I sold my client so much on HD that they have decided not to shoot SD and for me to pull it off now, I'd have to rent the Varicam and then there goes my profit....

People will get appeased and relaxed and then get rustled up and angry again. I am glad I didn't pay in full... and I would think that those who did would go to the top of the line.. but I dont' think it works like that. The shippments from what I was told will be dispersed evenly around.

I have finally relaxed myself.. Was getting all worked up.
 
I understand Justyn, believe me, I am sitting on so many projects (4) that I would love to do with this beautiful camera. God I just wish they would send us 250 of them and I could get one to everybody, and get my own too...

And I am usually on the phone everyday with folks here trying to make sure everyone is aware of everything. I regard my customers very personally, and I always put myself in their shoes. I look on DVXusers as my extended family. I just didn't appreciate that comment GH made, and wanted to make things clear.
 
The HVX has offically become the new cabbage patch kid, power rangers figure, tickle me elmo and furby.
 
Don't forget the Pet Rock and the Pocket Fisherman. I personally think it's just a vamped up Fisherprice PixelVision cam. LOW DEF BABY
 
Ahhh leave poor Rush alone. I prepaid and am fine waiting as it is obvious that Panasonic is causing the delay and not the dealers (they have beeen more than forthright). Anyone who thinks differently should check every other dealer that has the EXACT same dilema. I'm excited to get my camera and am sure Panasonic and EVS want to get it to me (and move on to their next customer).

Truth be told - This drama is almost as amusing to me as the kooks who chase Barry as being a shill for panasonic. I've been to a lot of boards and this is not only the most honest - but also the most selfless and informative. Please folks - paranoia is bad MMMkay.

Hey, Rush... Since Jeskid mentioned that he prepaid, got me thinking... If we prepay, does that move us up on the list ahead of those who haven't? Just curious -- you probably have a significant number of prepay customers already on the list anyway. :)

No it doesn't, sorry, the list stays intact. We only have 3 prepays on the entire list. That's why I tell people, half our list will cancel... :thumbsup: I have encouraged customers to get on other dealer's lists, like AVS and Abel, and see who gets it to you faster. We are totally cool with that, and we don't require a deposit. I have already had 14 cancellations/buying differerent cameras.
