Widespread HVX Availability

Are dealers starting to get an idea when the demand won't outstrip the supply for the HVX? Are we looking at production catching up with demand in Febuary, March? Or is this going to be a long term supply issue and I should just pre-order to get in line and hope I get a camera before April?

I'm no expert by far but my brain says that they will be way back-ordered until Summertime but my gut however, my gut tells me that they should be here before Adolf Hitlers birthday..

No, Panasonic should delay it until the big day, April 30! Hint: See link.

Gotta love a thread with A.H in it. wow. Thought this was the history channel or as we dubbed it.. the Hitler channel.

I think that March might be optomistic. I've started to look at the cheap Sony HDV camera. . the 2000 one that has the XLR inputs. I have a gig shooting for bike week in Daytona and they want HD.. so I might get that camera rather than loose the gig. It would pay for itself in about 4/5 days of bikers and bikini ladies.

Anyone else check out the cheap sony HDs? Or other cameras. I am still getting the HVX but hard to have all these opportunities going bye bye in the meantime. If not the Sony, what are others looking at in the 2K range?

thanks

I'm twisting in the wind like some h**ny guy waiting for his date to show up, and it's like hours late. :(

Hmm... what's this? A sexy Sanyo 720p camcorder just walked by... hmmm... only 800 smackers, too...

Seriously, if the Sanyo shows up in the local Best Buy, I might just go for it.

From what I can guess, I think that by the end of February, every dealer should have received their first 7 - 10. Then in March, they should get 5 to 10 a week.

Just a rough guess based on what I have been able to pick up here and there.

We should have our entire first order in February!
Woohoo, I hope it include all my order ;)

Oh damn, I just read the 'We should'... Damn this is torture...

I really hope no other place I preorder call me first!!! that would be the worst !!!

btw David, even if you did not receive the P2 Store.. I WANT THE CAMERA ;) I do not want to wait more for Store, I can work with with laptop in the mean time.

THANKS, your the best ;) Marc O. Chouinard

Indeed. That Sanyo looks very promising. The 2000 Sony with XLR looks tasty as well. I do think things will get figured out with the camera, but doesn't seem like it's going to be anything other than retail prices for a while. I think the deals that I've seen for the camera and 2 P2 cards give you like a 300 dollar break on full retail price.

Forgot your code Bob, but.. I'm quite positive a number of people are buying something else and waiting for the HVX. I think that is what I am going to be doing this month. By waiting, I'll look a gig worth a couple of grand... so time to suck up to an HDV and own that outright by the time the HVX comes in. Just hope I'll be able to possibly use both at the same time without too much difference

This is just nuts! I just got off the phone with a rep from B&H Photo and he said their list is about 147 orders long. That's pre-paid orders! When I asked him where I was on that list there was a long pause while he counted from the top and finally said "you must be below half way down." (I ordered mine on January 3.)

I am new to the list and have been eagerly watching all of your posts to try to get some reassurance that I may be able to use my HVX in the next month or so. Pretty sad considering that the reassurance should be coming from Panasonic.

The revolution did not start December 28th.

My background is in advertising so my immediate gratification attitude may me getting away from me but Panasonic should take a page from Apple Computer or many other companies with a strong brand identity and customer loyalty.

The first rule of building brand loyalty is "Don't promise what you can't deliver."

I know it takes time to build a new and innovative camera like this, but I'm pretty sure Panasonic knew it as well when the announced the beginning of the revolution.

I think it is time for Panasonic to give the hundreds of people who have plopped down $7000 plus for this camera just a little information.

I don't want my first post here to start off on the wrong foot but I think I am echoing the frustration of a lot of people here. I don't think it is unrealistic to expect a little infromation from Panasonic, but I could be wrong.

I feel your pain...I've emailed panny, I've called panny, I've talked to a psychic, and even asked my magic 8 ball but still can't get an answer.

I ordered pre-paid from B&H Photo on October 22nd, 2005. I sure hope that means I'm high up in the list, although nobody at BH will tell me where I stand. I thought that ordering from them would ensure earliest delivery, but that may prove to have been assumed in error. Grrrr.

I try to remind myself that in 6 months, this waiting period now, will not matter then.

In 6 months we'll see if we all have our cameras or not. At the rate they are going it doesn't look good.

My vendor sent me an email that they got 1 in this week but no P2 to go with it. They are supposed to be getting another one the first week of Feb and hopefully some P2 will come with that one. Beyond that Pana has not given them any more info on when more will be coming. Seeing as I am around 10-11 on their list I am anxiously waiting for an actuall "shipment" of cameras to get there.

So if I need a camera for a June shoot, I should just get in line and hope the company I pre-order from receives a healthy shipment every month?

If I lay down the cash for a pre-order I would like to also know if I'm going to be receiving the camera in time to use it. Having an HVX just sitting and looking pretty in July won't do me any good.

Any guesses on who is working through the shortest pre-order list the fastest? I would prefer to find a dealer in the Seattle area, any recommendations?

Yeah, technically Panasonic may have actually shipped by Dec. 29th as they said they would, but I think it was a little disingenuous of them to keep promising a Dec. delivery date when the majority of the people who pre-ordered the camera probably won't be receiving it till Feb. or March.

Initial limited availability may build anticipation but eventually this turns to resentment and frustration, especially with an innovative and long-awaited camera like the HVX. I think we're all champing at the bit to get our hands on it and start shooting some HD.

The good thing about having pre-ordered with EVS, as I did, however, is that they're not charging anyone until they actually have the cameras in stock.

You mean, like a 3GHz G5 by the end of 2004?

Just keeping things in perspective...

Someone brought up that point about Apple and their ability to deliver on time. I think
there is a lot of passion for this camera and little on the compassion side. Almost a get it when y ou get it vibe to the whole thing. I only have a a desire to get it and haven't put down any deposit.. so I can imagine how crazy it would be with 6k pre-paid.

I also think that Panasonic could be right in telling everyone to chill if they sent out hundreds and just under-estimated the demand. But as it is.. I can't even rent one here in town.. and personally don't know of any person in Florida.. outside of a dealer.. who's actually got one. Kind of looks like last minute cramming or buzz hyping.

Personally though, I'm ready to make the switch from Canon to panny. I've been happy in the canon camp... .and its just hard when you have money... and no camera... instead of the other scenario.

Well between Xbox 360 and G35 and HVX its been intresting. One out of three.
I was hoping for the HVX first...... looks like I will be keeping busy with my Xbox for awhile.

Hey anyone want to trade an HVX for a 360? :)
