widescreen squeeze question

is it possible to film using squeeze mode and edit footage in fcp that doesnt have the widescreen bars at the top and bottom, this has stumped me

Yes. That's the purpose of Squeeze. You set your FCP project and capture settings to DV NTSC 48kHz Anamorphic.

well i know that already, and when i view the footage in the viewer it isnt widescreen, but as soon as i insert the clip into the sequence it become widescreen in the canvas. any suggestions? its gotta be a sequence preset but i dont know which one

The footage isn't going to show up as widescreen (letterbox) in the camera's LCD. it will be a "squashed" frame... unless you have the DVX100B, in which case you have the option of monitoring your squeeze footage in letterbox mode.

If your FCP project is set to anamorphic, and you are capturing with the footage marked as anamorphic, it is going to stretch the footage out to a full 16:9 frame. You can check the settings for that by scrolling right in your browser. See if "Anamorphic" is checked on everything. If it is still showing up as letterbox, then something isn't right.

A screen shot of your FCP desktop may help. Assume that we cannot see your computer from here.

and i usually capture using the pulldown removal which ive been told is the way to do it

If you're shooting 24pA, yes.

and another question about my export movie settings, like the key frames, frame reordering and stuff. which are the best preferences, by the way i have a dvx100b and i usually always shoot in 60i but the screen shot i posted was from 30fps shutter 1/60
