Hello again,

I just got my wide angle adapter for the A1, but when I tested I notice this problem, this is the One I get,
http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Video-72mm-Angle-Canon/dp/B000G3GVZE

I know for that price, I can't expect something good, but I read good reviews about this adapter

here is the picture, look at the corners. Please let me know what I can do,

thank you
PS. sorry for my English

Yeah, that's really terrible vignetting. The only thing I can think to say is that .5 is wider than it can handle on the crummy wide adaptor.

I'm assuming you are pulled back to the widest, so to avoid the vignetting in the corners, you'll have to zoom in a little bit and not use it at it's absolute widest.

Hello Elyuma,
Nothing is wrong with the adapter. You will get this with all the wide angle adapters. Try to zoom in a little.

i'll confirm what frontloop said. no vignetting at all on the wd-h72 wide adapter through the entire zoom range. i think century optics (or schneider optics) also makes an adapter specifically for the a1/g1 that doesn't vignette. i'd suspect what japwolf said is true of most of the cheaper wide adapters flooding ebay and elsewhere.

When it comes to wide angle/telephoto adapters, there's no in-between territory where it's "ok, but not great," it either works or it doesn't. Real adapters like those made by Century Optics, 16x9 or the one made by Canon will have zero vignetting and very little edge distortion. By the time you zoom in enough to compensate, you'll find out that you just threw away that extra edge the adapter give you, with the added light loss. I think I had that exact adapter when I got my first camera; threw it away as soon as I put it on. Waste of money.

I bought one of these on e-bay 3 years ago for my DVX & ended up using it as an effect lens!! Due to lack of any anti-glare coating on the lens elements I found that it was great for getting classic lens flare shots like the one's you used to get in the 70's with those cheap Hanimex 8mm cine-cams.

Cheers,
E

I got the Canon WD-H72, and there is quite a bit of distortion when fully zoomed out...does anyone else have this?

zoomed in or zoomed out?

zoomed in or zoomed out?

You have problems when fully zoomed in or zoomed out? I cannot imagine aberations when fully zoomed out, at least this may happen with cheap konverters when fully zoomed in - anyway I'd recommend not use the WA in full telephoto mode. When you are looking to film details and close ups it looks normally better to do this without WA.

thanks for your reply, I knew this was a waste of money, hey but at least work great as Macro, I did some testing and it looks really good. I will post some sample here soon!

thanks again
