Wide angle adapters

Anyone know a good wa adapter for a 20mm 1.7 that won't do or does minimally the blurring edges side effect - not a big fan of that. I saw caveman's post with the canon WA adapter, but does anyone have sample footage with the raynox? I seen handicam footage that looked fine, but not GH1 footage.

i would like to see a raynox example too. i have been holding off getting one simply because of no hd footage online

GH1 - 20mm 1.7 - Canon WD-55 (?) 0.7x Wide Converter.

Nothing creative here, just a quick test. 720p shot at 1/60, f1.7 and ISO 1000.

Edge to edge sharpness test of this Canon Wide Converter mounted on a Panasonic 20mm f1.7 lens. Wide Converter has 55mm mount thread. Had to use a 46-52mm and 52-55mm step-up ring. No vignetting detected.

Why this converter is 0.7x and most others are 0.75x with a model name of WD-55 I'm not sure but mine is labeled 0.7x which would make the 20mm lens a 14mm. Both wide converters look exactly the same physically with the lettering in the same location and style. Since the 0.7x is no longer available I assume it is an older version of the WD-55.

This wide converter is also exceptionally sharp, edge to edge, on a DV camcorder with no vignetting.

is this the same used with the other videos? to be honest the edges were too fuzzed for my liking in that clip.

Nope, this is a new adapter I just got in. There were two others, a Canon WD-46 0.7x with moderate blurring around the edges beyond what the aperture was doing and a Kenko 0.5x which had extreme blurring around the edges.

You need to remember I was shooting this video above with the aperture wide open at 1.7, so there is going to be some blurring in that situation at different depths since that is what a wide open large aperture is all about. It's plenty sharp considering that. This video just shows that there is no unnatural blurring like there was with the other two adapters I shot videos with.

GH1 - 20mm 1.7 - Canon WD-55 0.7x - More Tests

Three videos total, two outdoors and one indoors. All shot at 720p in Creative Movie and M mode. All videos color corrected in Edius Neo Booster 2.5 since I shoot really flat and wanted to show a more realistic look.

Sharpness Test Outdoors

1st video - 1/125 f4 - ISO 100
2nd video - 1/125 f5.6 - ISO 100

About as sharp as it gets for a wide converter in my book.

Exposure Test Indoors

3rd video - 1/60 f1.7 - ISO 1000

The exposure meter showed no drop or change in exposure when adding the wide converter.

That looks great! Any chance that you would be able to shoot something with the converter on a Canon Fd 50mm 1.4 if you have one? I would love to see that!

That looks great. Can you provide a link where you bought it? I searched amazon/ebay/b&h/adorama, but could only find the .75 version.

A comparison video of the 20mm w and w/o the adapter would be nice, if you're willing.

Thanks

Oops- sorry Randy. I just noticed the last bit with the adapter swapped on and off in front of the lens. Still impressive.

Thanks

Just got it on eBay for $20 and is "all metal" and well built like the Century Optics adapters:

that last video was a great example. much appreciated and for $20 absolute bargain. Would you say this is similar to the kit 14mm or wider?

Has anyone tried a 0.45. Just wondering if vignetting occurs on the 20mm
