wide angle adapter and filters

I'm looking to buy a wide angle adapter, probably the Canon one, but I'm wondering about filters. That adapter doesn't have any threads on the front if I'm not mistaken.

So I'm wondering about using a ND filter--can I just put it behind the wide adapter? Or do I need to come up with some kind of matte box filter holder solution to run wide+ND?

And what about polarizer? I'm going to be shooting at high altitude in the mountains, and imagine ND and Polarizers will come in quite handy. Your advice is appreciated.

canon's wide adapter won't take screw on filters, but the schneider (century) optics .8x and 16x9 inc.'s .75x will.

I'm pretty settled on the Canon (not least because of the square hood it offers--I'm a believer in a good hood), and now am wondering even more intently:

Any problem putting an ND between the lens and adapter?
