Why would you shoot in 24p mode?

Query re: shooting 24p over 60 versus shooting 60 variable fps. I take it that you can't just slow your 24p footage down 60% or whatever in a 24p timeline and then come up with 60 fps slomo? There's some other wizardry at play in the variable frame rate option to shoot 'proper' 60 fps?

I believe the image would be the same, but there'd be no sound. still, hope someone with more expertise will confirm this though.

That's exactly what you'd do if you'd shot in "over 60" mode.

In 24pN mode, the file gets flagged to indicate that it should be played back at 24fps regardless of what frame rate you shot it at. In either case you're playing the footage back frame-for-frame.

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear.

You want your footage to be overcranked at 60 fps (i.e. slow motion when you play it back at 24 fps). Do you have to select 60fps as your variable frame rate, or can you shoot 24p which captures 60 frames and then slow it down? That way your slomo footage would, in fact, have sound.

No you'd have to choose 60fps, so you'd shoot 720/24p at 60fps. You'll still have sound if you shoot 720/24p (and not 24pN). But you'll have to figure out what to do with your sound because obviously it won't work when you slow the footage down.

There are two ways to acquire slo-mo. In the camera (as Barry speaks of) or in the NLE.
If you shoot in any mode other than 24pn and you set your variable frame rate at 24 fps, then you need the panasonic frame rate converter for slo-mo.

Here's a link:

This where you get the frame rate converter:
