why would i buy this canon over the tokina

I also suggest the sigma 30mm 1.4 like those in the other did. For your primary lens why would you want a macro?

It's not that I want a macro. But I have read the specs on both 35 mm and the tokina seems to be better built and have better glass then the canon 35mm I want a 35mm. I lime the sig 30mm but am after a reasonably priced 35mm

if u want 35mm take a half step closer . the difference is minute. i vote the sigma.

you can also consider the samyang 35mm f/1.4; plus, as jambredz said, 30mm and 35mm are basically the same: there's probably less difference between those 30mm and 35mm than there is between my two 135mm lenses (one of which seems to be quite a bit longer than the other)
