Why won't my camera switch to DVCPRO HD

Hi I just got my HPX-170 and am playing around with it and trying to learn as much as possible. I know there is software I need with E Series P2 cards to shoot in DVCPRO HD, is that the reason?

Also how to I switch to 1080p? Is 1080i/60p the same with 1080p being a simple shorthand?

Sorry if my questions are a little amateurish, I'm still learning though!

1080i/24p and 1080i/30p are 1080p. Their is no 1080/60p its 1080/60i which is i not O. The way you get into the right mode is to physically switch a switch on the back from tape to P2.

I don't think you'll find a tape/P2 switch on a 170 :).

If you can set the mode to any high def mode 1080 or 720 then, by definition you are in DVCPRO HD mode as that is the only high def mode the camera supports.

The menu display says DVCPRO50. Does that mean I'm there???

It doesn't matter what it says on that menu, those choices only apply if you have set the recording format (using a different menu item) to 480i.

What is your firmware version number?

I'm not sure. My camera's right out of the box though.

Here's some screenshots of the LCD. In the first one you can see it says 1080i. It shouldn't say 1080p right?

The second pic shows DVCPRO under 480i rec mode. That doesn't mean anything though because I'm not in 480i mode right? I think that's where my confusion is coming in.

You are correct. Another hint is that the menu item is displayed in blue that means that because of some setting elsewhere this menu and choices are not relevant.
