Why this tripod?

I was looking at threads on good tripods for the HVX200. Most suggested Manfrotto 526 etc. and for smaller budget the 503 head.

What is the difference between the 501 and 503 head?

I believe 503 is the newer model and it replaces the 501.

all i will say is try a 510, 516, 519, 526 against a 501, 503 doing articulated pans and tilts (to a stop) and you will answer your own question.

I have the 510 and love it but it is the smallest I would go. For my Full 35mm adapter setup I'm looking for something more. I started with the 501 and went to the 503hdv , but as soon as I got home I knew I needed more. kept it for 2 days.

i have a 501 for run and gun or simple shoots and a cartoni focus for my rig and complex shooting. just depends on what you want it to do.
