why they don't create a xlr block for dslr camera?

There is juiced link and tascam make blocks for DSLR-XLR

GH4 has optional XLR box

A7s has XLR top unit

(yes I know GH4 and A7s are not DSLRs)

If the microphone/s having XLR output doesn't need phantom power, it's very easy and low cost to make an XLR to mini-plug adaptor, or two XLRs to mini-plug adaptor. Thus one or two microphones can be fed into any camera having a mini-plug microphone input.

More than the block they need proper audio controls, monitoring tools, preamps, etc. Something equivalent to what pretty much any prosumer camcorder has.

If they made an XLR adapter that took a D-tap power cable, you wouldn't have to worry about another battery. More viewfinders and external recorders should take D-tap as well. Then couldn't you power your camera and all accessories from one battery, like the Switronix PowerBase?

There are lots of things that do this exact thing and do it well. The Sound Devices MixPre-D, The Tascam DR-60D...and on and on. It really depends on what your needs are and your budget.

The three things I know of are: they've added another gain setting with more strength, so now you can really drive all mics - before, the 60D was extremely marginal, and couldn't drive many mics. They also removed the zipper effect from the pots (except for if you do it very quickly from 0 to max). And they improved the xlr inputs, so they no longer break and trap connectors. These by themselves are all very good. I have the original 60D and I also bought the 70D, but I must say, the 70D is not simply a 100% improvement over the 60Dmkii - there are several things on the 70D that are a step back from the 60D, so that's disappointing. Anyhow, if I didn't have the 60D already, I'd definitely buy the 60Dmkii as a companion to the the 70D; and even with having the 60D, I'm debating getting the 60Dmkii.
