why such a difference in price?

I know the HVX200 retails at about 6000 bucks, so how are certain sites selling it for like 3 grand, and why would anyone pay more if they can get it for such a low price? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

It is not a stupid question, just one that you a quick look through the threads would disclose two dozens posts.

The quick answer is tha Panasonic Authorized dealer prices for the HVX200 range from a low of $5100 to $5995.00.

The short answer is that you cannot buy the cam for what you see on those web sites.

Punch the names into resellerrating.com and you'll get a eyefull.

I've heard that some of these ones are going to be giving you just the camera with no manual or battery. Stuff like that suggests that perhaps they aquired them by less than reputible methods. I don't really know though since I've never looked into gray market stuff. I can't afford to blow even 3k or 4k on something that may end up being a scam. Rember, "penny-wise, dollar-poor."

Nobody actually sells just the bare camera.

They tell you when you have to call them to confirm the credit card information that what you ordered is the OEM version that doesn't include the battery, charger, software, cables etc., and that the "American" version or "Premium Package" that includes all that is $2500 more.

If you tell them that that's OK and you would like to order just the camera, it is suddenly out of stock, with no ETA for when more will arrive.

Don't bother dealing with any such places.
