Why not Higher Framerate on 7D if T2i has 60fps?

I know this has been discussed somewhere. Couldn't find it. But had to bring it up again. If they can squeeze out 60fps out the new canon t2i single processor then I wonder if it possible to get higher frame rate out of 7D dual processor?

Just a thought.

It's not just the processor, it's also the sensor and the card that has to be able to do these things.

Unless I've misunderstood, both the 7D and the T2i both have 60fps in 720p only.

But the 7D has 2 processors while the T2i only has one. Still, there are probably other factors involved. Since both cameras use H.264 which is Interframe, it may be difficult to share data from 2 processors into the final stream. Just a guess. If it where Intraframe like Mjpeg, it would probably be easier.

I highly doubt the issue is a technical one. Canon is not stupid and would never give you equal features on a product that costs way less than another...

Got it. I misunderstood the OP.

I think that roxics is correct...however, it seems a bit odd that they couldn't squeeze out a bit more, considering that faster frame rates (and therefore faster shutter speeds) mean more time for the CPU to think between frames. Maybe the card/bus speed is the limiting factor?

I think it was Barry who said that the still guys did this completely independent of the broadcast division, without them even knowing it was being done. I think that at the end of the day it is what it is - 'good enough' video bolted on to a still camera for photojournalists and people who want to grab a quick moving 'still'.

Way less than what? With the $800 T2i, Canon is giving its customers all the video features from the $1800 7D. Are you referring to a product higher up than the 7D?

The still shooting modes on the 1DMkIV are the same as the original Digital Rebel. You pay for sensor quality among everything else.

Why?

Because canon wouldn't see a need for a "non-standard" frame rate.

There are 120hz TVs coming, but 120fps isn't exactly a broadcast standard yet.

Canon is both radical and conservative at the same time. They are having an identity crisis.

On one hand they are bucking many trends by continuing to buy into the HDSLR Movement and slowly adding features to new models.

Why does the 5DII still not have 24 or even 25fps - could be some kind of encoding issue but more likely it's that they are dragging their feet for marketing reasons and getting many of us to keep buying cameras. It's simple. Why tune up something when you can buy a new one?

Different price = Different ISO performance.

7D willl have better lowlight performance than the new Rebel.
Just as the 5D has better lowlight performance than the 7D

the new rebel is great for video, but probably not over 400 iso...

Without a doubt, dual processors in the 7D has everything to do with the cameras ability to shoot 8 fps in still mode, and nothing to do with the cameras video capabilities. We can see that now with the introduction of the T2i. One processor, capped at 3.7 fps.

Look at the other cameras in Canon's lineup and you will see what I am talking about. The 5D Mark II with a single processor shoots only 3.9 fps, but any of the 1D series models with two processors, shoot more than double that.

Looks like a one processor configuration can only handle up to approximately 4 fps. Makes sense since you double the processor configuration like in the 7D, and you now have double the max fps in still mode.

if im sure, the dual processor is for the 7fps stills of 7d... NOT THE VIDEO

based on th video i saw at the canon site. no, the 550d has the same sensitivity if not close to 7d.

and as i keep saying, its not about the video for canon. its the stills. they dont give a **** about the frame rate or quality available across their line ups contradicting because theyre selling the still not the video.

not quite true or they would have only put 30fps . I willing to bet higher framerates are coming but it's like everything , incrementalism. When Canon has to face Scarlet and maybe Casio on the low end will have a 720/120p camera before too long, then we'll see it and they'll see a need to provide it . But for now I think the 550d is a threshold camera that will be very hard to beat for the video industry.

oh, and I'm willing to bet that the iso performance between the two cameras will be indentical until iso 6400- the only difference besides build will be 3.7 and 8 fps, micro-lens adjust etc.- In other words, for video, for the Rebel price, you can have a two camera setup for the price of the 7d.

This is not true.

Nikon D90 and D300 had the same sensor and ISO performance
Nikon D700 and D3 had the same sensor and ISO performance
Canon 500D and 50D had the same sensor and ISO performance
etc

The T2i and 7D have the exact same ISO range. 6400 is the last true option and 12800 is the highest boosted option. As to the actual performance, I think we'll know soon enough.
