Why no FS 700 section? Why no FS100/700 Group?

I have been a member since 2006, I noticed Landmine started a group instantly for the BlackMagic camera rather than a section. Those who are using the FS100 have but a section and those who will have an FS700 perhaps

Is it because Sony is not willing to sponsor and Panasonic and BlackMagic are willing or do indeed sponson the groups? This would also bring many moire questions....
Just had to ask.

The blackmagic camera seems to be a completely different beast from what we've seen before - a low cost raw based camera.
The Scarlet was going to be that camera (and that did get it's own site), but in the end it didn't satisfy the throngs of people who have been waiting for something like the BMC.

DVXuser already has SO many camera sections... a low cost raw workflow seemed as good a place to draw the line as any.
There are only so many sections we can add before the site splits at the seams - and we've grown a tremendous amount over the past couple of years since the advent of DSLRs.
Covering DSLRs alongside with traditional video cameras taught us a lot (I think).

This had absolutely nothing to do with sponsorship or anything else - Blackmagic isn't associated with BMCuser at all.

As far as the FS700 - we do need a section for it, and had been discussing it (whether it should be on its own or togehter with the FS100).

Hopefully that answers some of your questions, Brian.
Don't think for a second it has anything to do with what we like more or what we personally see as 'better' - I'm actually typing this between prepping gear for another shoot tomorrow with my FS100.
:)

At least you could have renamed this group to Sony FS100/FS700 .. that would have resolved the problem instantly

Thanks for the speedy response Luis. Corrected the spelling error Stephen, thanks for pointing it out not sure if it was me or autocorrect on the iPhone. Certainly the BMD camerais a different beast but I think the FS100/700 is a camera that is and in the case of the 700, will having a major impact as well on all fronts, dslrs, lenses etc.
But I totally understand the issues you and the Landmine team would face making these decisions and I am very glad to hear that sponsorship was not the reason. Though I do appreciate and order from all the good sponsors of DVXUSER and support the ones who ship to my country.

Certainly think we will need an FS700 section in due time.

I would really love a dedicated "post your footage here" subcategory for the F3/100/700 like there is for other cameras. I'm not so much interested in all the technical details/pixel peeping of these cameras, but would love to see real-world example footage in a dedicated area on DVXuser.

+1. Personally I think a separate FS700 group could be counter-productive, as many issues will be common to both (except "what ND filters should I buy"...). So lots of threads would end up cross-posted.

So how about renaming this to "Sony FS cams" or something similar? In the same vein as "Canon FF", "Canon APS-C", "HMC Cams", etc.

That was my general first reaction as well, combine the sections - and that's exactly what gets a little tricky because we need a good way to allow members to sort and separate the threads if they are only interested in one camera.
It can be done (as we've done in other forums) but requires some behind the scenes work that can only be done by taking the entire site offline... which is not something we do everyday.

Just trying to give you guys an idea of the hold up here.
In the meantime I may just add a separate FS700 forum so we at least have a dedicated place for the discussions.

Either way - there will be a solution coming very soon...

I appreciate the feedback.

It went further than a BlackMagic camera group, there is now a BlackMagic Camera website at BMCuser.com.
Makes sense since it is so groundbreaking, but I wonder what will happen when Gopro introduces something similar...?

You absolutely need a separate group for FS700. This camera is going to be HUGE. Even now it bothers me that I have to sift through FS100 threads to find info about it. And it works the other way, too - FS100 owners shouldn't have to wade through FS700 threads.

It's only a question of when, and the sooner the better.

PS: DVinfo didn't waste any time - they formed a separate FS700 group a few days after it was announced.

Personally, I think there's no getting around the inherent problem of using a forum architecture for what you're talking about. I'm getting all my NEX-FS100 news/video samples/discussion from:

http://vimeo.com/groups/fs100

And there's a parallel but discrete operation for the new NEX-FS700:

http://vimeo.com/groups/fs700

Easy as that!
