Why is my HVX not mounting to my G5!?

For a while I've been using my P2 store to import p2 footage to my g5. I had tried importing through the HVX directly before I got my P2 store and it worked with no problem. Recently i tried importing straight from the HVX through the firewire port and made sure that in the menu under "Other functions" the camera was in "PC Mode>1394 Device", and for some reason the Mac G5 just said that it's a disc that mac osx doesn't recognize! I've tried restarting the camera, computer, reattaching the firewire connection- nothing seems to work!!! Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks,
Philip

Are you switching so the 1394 device shows on the screen?

I never installed any software besides Final Cut Pro, but there was no problem mounting the camera when I first got it. Yes, I switch the camera so that 1394 device shows on the screen. The G5 is the one that is rejecting it saying that it's not a recognised disc.
Thanks,
Philip

Have you tried the back port, or are you using the front port?

Does the cam show up in the Apple System Profiler?

I've been using the back port. As far as the system profiler goes this is what comes up:

PSTS:

Change the camera to a USB device instead of the 1394 mode. Then connect the HVX to the G5 with a USB 2.0 cable instead. Now make sure the P2 card is in "write protect mode" (theres a switch on the P2 card itself you need to move to the left) now, put the HVX200 into Device mode, and it will mount instantly

David, yes I have reformatted the card in the camera. I've also reformatted the card in the p2 store.
Cynic821, that sounds like an interesting method, how did you figure that one out? and also why won't firewire work?- I'll try it tommorrow- just got back from a job and i gotta get some sleep!
Thanks all!
Philip

Philip,

I'm having the same problem with my G5. A couple weeks ago I was able to get the computer to recognize the HVX200 but now I'm having no luck. For me, in the system profiler the HVX200 is showing up as a unknown device. But then I'm also having trouble connecting external hard drives (the computer isn't recognizing them a 100% of the time). I'm going to run the program TechTool Pro and hopefully that will clear up the problem.
