Why is it doing this?

I was helping a friend shoot a short, and when we did playback, there were these weird things going on on the left side.

I need to shoot again tomorrow, so I need to figure out what to do here.

Anyone know a fix?
Is it my camera?

thx

Is that in the recording, when you play it back live from the camera? or only on footage captured on the computer?

If it's in the recording, that looks like HDV dropouts and I'd recommend you clean the heads and then use a higher caliber of tape.

If it's only on the computer playback and not on the original recording, try capturing the footage again.

It is in both playback from the camera and computer.

As of now, I'm using Panasonic ay-dvm63amq which I read are good tapes.

Now you say HDV dropouts, but I was shooting SD. Or are these two intertwined?

thx

Looks like a tape issue to me. Have you tried putting a new tape in and shooting for a few minutes and playing back?

Problem solved.
I bought a Head Cleaner, ran it for about 18seconds, and did a short test shoot. Worked and looked fine after that.

As I read in other forums, changing tapes may not be so beneficial. I get really good deals on DV tapes, which at first is one reason why I tried/used so many, however, this is what caused my heads to get gummed up. I plan to stick with one tape now. I wouldnt want to do paid gig and have something as benign as that mess up my shots.

thx for the help

Hi

kind of off topic...

but where do you get your tapes?

was through Best Buy. Now BH because of the tape I decided to go with is not offered at Best Buy.
