Why I'll rather buy another HMC40

Agreed, though I don't find the somewhat underpowered built in ND to be a problem in actual practice. When I'm shooting under bright sunlight, I almost always have a polarizing filter on anyway. I just like the way it keeps the sky and reflections under control.

Agree, but when conditions change, light to dark or vice-versa, you might have to stop and remove the filter instead of flipping an ND switch or in this case rolling the ND thingy. Not a huge deal, but if you have to change back and forth on the same scene, it will ruin your continuity.

The fact that the 40 and 80 have built-in ND's to me is a huge advantage for run 'n gun cos you don't need to switch ND filters in and out!! At wedding ceremonies (outdoors) with the AC130 I was having to change ND's manually whenever a cloud went across the sun and that causes a nasty flash in the footage and ruins continuity...Doing the same shoot with the 40 or 80 you have seamless exposure !!

Hello Felipe,

I just wanted to post a link to another thread http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?296288-Panasonic-Ag-AC-90/page6

There a few of my questions were answered and one pertained to the par-focal question.

Cheers!

Sure has not par-focal as the HMC40, is sad the evolution just went to a bigger camera , which is not good, a inferior lens which is not good, No WFM, is sort of a toy with gadgets to catch ingenious people.
However I couldn't be happier with my HMC40, and almost decided for a AC-160A but at the end said to my self this is business, making money ? pay money and ordered a HPX 250 P2, However
Again is sad Panasonic is giving toys to the low budgets, should continue offering image quality over gadgets, more than one user has told me how different is the Leica lenses image.
Any way Now I'll have 2 Panas, and 2 Canon DSLR since their move with the GH3 wasn't the best
In my understanding Panasonic has two great cameras the HMC40 and the HPX 250 and up

Dude what the heck are you talking about? The GH3 isn't even out yet. I have just seen samples from the GH3 that have blown me away. I would not consider the AC90 a toy either. Pretty harsh reaction on your part to something as simple as a video camera.

Dude play is your money is your toy

The fact remains that you are panning the GH3 before it has even shipped, which is an absolutely ridiculous position for anyone to take at this point in time.

You are guilty of premature evaluation.

This the fourth xample I show you but if you search the internet you will find hundreds

Hi Felipe

That's hardly considered moire!! Gosh the average viewer wouldn't even see that plus if you get the light right and shoot a brick wall with your HMC40 it will do the same!! I have tons of footage when a bride was near a face brick wall and shots from both my HMC72 and 82 will bring up moire ..yep even on old CCD chips!! You need to remember that you are being over critical with the camera ..if it's not for you then don't buy it in January ..simple as that!! You cannot down a pre-relaesed product just because someone posts a badly lit scene... I only ever take advice from actual significant user reports not the odd YT video!!!

Are you still buying an AC-160???

I've never seen moire in my HMC40, and the many xample footage with GH3 moire, are all around the planet, any way I got my refund and will continue with Canon DSLR, at least they were able to control moire with the Mark III, and probably
future cameras also. Just let's forget about the GH3, that footage is flooded with moire. I guess if you see moire in your HMC80 is because you shoot interlaced or something weird .
No not the 160 but the HPX-250 AVC INTRA 100 , 4:2:2 1/3 chip, Camera and 3 cards + extra battery $ 7000, a lot of money , hope everything goes well.
Nothing personal against Panasonic, in fact Now I'm more into Panasonic, deeply regret not to have a micro four thirds, just because they pretended to compete with Canon and Nikon in stills and that is a dream, I mean no way.
GH2 strength was video, Moire is like a dirty picture.

Hundreds huh? I find it amazing that you have found hundreds of samples of the GH3 out there. I believe there are in fact only a dozen or perhaps two dozen samples out there. I have also seen samples that have no moire at all so how do you explain that? Go to EOSHD and check out his comparison between the BMCC, GH2 and GH3. He even did a moire test and it looked perfectly clean. I have no explanation as to why some people seem to put out horrendous material from the GH3. All I know is that there is also some perfect GH3 footage out there so clearly it is a capable camera. Why do you not use those samples as a reference? The pros like Phillip Bloom and Andrew from EOSHD have somehow managed to make the GH3 look superb. A lot of the GH3 samples with moire were shot by photography bloggers who have little to no video production background. Are they even rendering the files correctly when sent to Youtube? I have seen even the most seasoned video professionals send badly rendered video to YouTube. Honestly Vimeo is the only site I would trust for video quality. Even then I only trust it when I can download the raw file from Vimeo. The EOSHD review on Vimeo can by the download the full 2.5k version. I have extracted the GH3 moire test at a perfect raw 1920x1080 and it looks perfect. Please do us a favor and check it out. I think you will be surprised.

By the way check out these two GH3 samples and tell me how they compare to the crappy GH3 samples out there? Clearly some people are doing something wrong.

Sure if you look for subjects with fine lines, that produce moire patterns, that is where you will have troubles like a person with a dress with lines etc, not in nature, where the camera performs well
You mentioned Andrew Reid so take a look at this and visit Vimeo, where there is a long discussion on this. By the way since I'm not interested in the GH3 any more I'll unsubscribe from this Thread

Hi Felipe

I was looking at getting the Sony EA50 Shoulder mount but the moire and alaising is awful..common with still camera sensors. The only people who have got it right so far is Canon on the 5DIII only!! I'll stick to a couple of AC-90's I think ..definately not the 130/160 again..just had too many issues with it. What are you going to get???
