why i chose xl2 and binned the cravat!

quite simply 16:9, in uk guides for programme submiters are stressing the importence of it, on dvd its just neccessary, i wanted a panasonic with 16:9 the adaptor was impractical and i dont trust squeeze for quality, i know im wrong but ive been taught in photography and im too old to change, but heres somthing ive found out through usage.......
*actors act better wnen the see the rig, they take the freebie seriously!
*i get better co operation from locations when they see my equipment
*people respect the working area when out doors
so in short the cravats in the bin because your taken more seriously! very important when your starting all i need now is a directors eyepiece that does 1/3 inch!

I don't think you're wrong, you're spot on!

I just sold my second DVX in favour of the XL2... I find there's a big price to pay using squeeze, but what really got to me about the DVX is the level of noise in the picture. Who cares if it's a stop faster when it introduces that amount of noise. I'd rather have a cleaner signal and the option to use gain if the need arises. Apparently the 'b' version has reduced noise, but still no 16:9 chips.

My XL2 arrives Friday. I hope I like it, despite some reservations about the VF, the lack of an LCD and its inherent imbalance.

Can't share your opinion on form factor. Personally I like to keep a low profile and I'd much rather have something that slips beneath the radar. The DVX suits me just fine in the looks department. But that's a subjective issue. What most (with the notable exception of John 'Mojo' Hudson, bless his soul) can agree on is that the XL2 is capable of producing a superior 16:9 image.

I think the HVX is a dream cam... but I can't afford to wait X number of months for the Pal version with Firestore to arrive, so until then I hope the XL2 performs.

id like to have two cameras one low profile for guerrilla street scenes and above for getting taken seriously by shallower individuals, actors. im looking for an external monitor probably wireless connection to camera, if not a little seven inch! just bought an octavia mike and ac sol AT4073a as recommended elsewhere on this site, a manual lens would be nice, is the zoom the worst thing about the camera and the best!

Yeah, I know what you mean... so on a practical level it suits to impress... but playing to the ego of fragile individuals who are going to switch on or off depending of the size of the lens pointed their way.... eeek!!

Guess ya gotta do what ya gotta do ;-)

Hey, maybe I'll find this working for me - I've never shot talent with anything larger than a DVX.
