sxs recording would skew the results slightly, but has little to do with bit depth, or color information, mainly efficiency. the avchd from the af100 didn't exhibit such behavior. it has a stronger olpf and is also 8 bit 4:2:0 long gop. So the question is, is the color moire from the inefficiency of the codec, or it's the result of the olpf itself. If it's the olpf than external recording won't make a difference.
Price point will probably be radically different. The F3 is half the price of a Red One. Sony's 4K would likely be priced notably higher than the Red One.If F3 is rival for Red and "rock solid image capture" solution for Features - then why has Sony announced a 4K camera?

But until then sorry Red owners - right now at this moment in time you're losing. It's a sad feeling to be losing especially for gear heads.
But maybe this is an important moment in your life - where you realize you shouldn't just be a supporter of one camera - where you should use different cameras like people who shoot on film use different film stocks. Where one film you'll shoot on Fuji and another on Kodak. Your reputation is not on the line.
I love this thread! So passionate.
I'll answer your ? w/ a ?. Why is Red releasing the 3K Scarlet if it can't resolve 4K?
RED's marketing tends to polarize people, perhaps even radicalize them. They make it seem like a war...a "RED Army" and a feeling of "you are either with us or you are with them." It's like things are either black or white to them ("them" being certain top executives and engineers).Having people ask questions like this is one of the problems with Red's EVERYTHING WE HAVE IS THE BEST THERE IS ALL PRO ALL THE TIME ZOMG marketing.
They say that the 5K cameras are for pros and the 3K cameras are for "aspiring pros." *eyeroll*
Shooting 4k for reframing was a godsend for me on the last edit job I did. I totally do not agree.
