Why doesn't the DVX have 16:9 yet?

Heck Panasonic's very own consumer cameras are starting to have true 16:9
Check out the review of the GS500:

Unlike the GS300, which uses a crop-and-zoom technique (cutting information from the top and bottom to create a 16:9 frame) to obtain a 16:9 aspect ratio, the GS500 has true widescreen.
If Panasonic were to release a DVX with true 16:9, this would certainly kill a LOT of Canon's sales, possibly forcing them to release an XL2s.

What would a XL2s need to have that the XL2 already dont have?

Sure maybe a couple of people would choose a widescreen dvx over an xl2 but those how buy the xl2 already do it fo a lot more reason than its widescreen capabilities. Most XL1/XL1s user didnt buy the DVX for its lack of changable optics.

I would rather have a DVX100 with 16:9 over a XL2. The big reason is the form factor.

as a ex XL1s owner that is the problem I have. I don't care about or have the money for extra lenses.

Sure thats wasnt my point, my point ther isnt really much you can uppgrade an xl2 without making it a XLH1.

DVX100-AE and M2 16:9 question

DVX100-AE and M2 16:9 question

I have a question relating to the DVX-100AE and 16:9. I currently use the Panasonic AG-LA7200G Anamorphic lens with Chrosziel Matte Box and 15mm rails. I have been very pleased with this set up and the BBC have used material shot with this set up. Now I am thinking of adding a Redrock M2 so that I can use Nikkor primes and when budget allows PL cine lens. As the M2 mounts directly to the fixed lens on the DVX I will have to lose the anamorphic. If I then use the squeeze function in menu, will the resultant 16:9 be just as good as it would have been with the anamorphic?
Obviously the image should be better with the prime lens and at last I can get good DOF which has been missing from footage thus far.
I am in the UK and my DVX-100AE is PAL.
I look forward to your comments.

ive shot with squeeze mode and been very happy with my results. it looked great on my brother in law's 16 X 9 TV. it was cool..i plugged direct from camera via RCA to the TV and it unsqueezed the picture for me and played 16 X 9. i was surprised the TV was so smart!
if you have your lighting down, you will be very happy with your DVX. no matter what aspect ratio you use. i'm glad the camera is still going strong and competing well.

they could make the controls and lens readouts numeric. then it would be awesome.
