Check out the review of the GS500:
http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/Panasonic-PV-GS500-Camcorder-Review.htm
Unlike the GS300, which uses a crop-and-zoom technique (cutting information from the top and bottom to create a 16:9 frame) to obtain a 16:9 aspect ratio, the GS500 has true widescreen.
If Panasonic were to release a DVX with true 16:9, this would certainly kill a LOT of Canon's sales, possibly forcing them to release an XL2s.
What would a XL2s need to have that the XL2 already dont have?
Sure maybe a couple of people would choose a widescreen dvx over an xl2 but those how buy the xl2 already do it fo a lot more reason than its widescreen capabilities. Most XL1/XL1s user didnt buy the DVX for its lack of changable optics.
