Why doesn't the 1D get more play?

Probably because most people can't justify the price for the same quality video as 5Dll/7D and now T2 IMO.

It's for high-end still work, video is great like the others, but pro photographers would benefit from this camera more than videographers. Still overpriced though if you ask me...

Because a dslr costing three times a 7D with artificial enhanced noise reduction, same aliasing and compression, automatic gain control and no video run/stop button doesn't justify a strong prosumer video response.

That's the first time I've read someone who thought the same thing as me.

I've come to the same conclusion. Digital Photography Review's images show that the noise difference at high ISOs between the 1D and the 7D is significant but not huge (actually a smaller difference than the 1D compared to the Nikon D3S): http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos1dmarkIV/page29.asp

So something fishy must be happening for it to look as good as it does (and so much better than the 7D and even the 5D) at really high ISOs.

Still, the 1D does offer dramatically better low-light video performance than the other Canons and the least offensive rolling shutter out of all HDSLRs currently on the market. Those two advantages alone are enough to justify the price for some people with very deep pockets.

Wow, seeing is believing. Their marginal difference in noise and detail at 6400 and below makes me think that the 7D is either more capable than it currently performs or the Mark lV is employing some aggressive noise reduction at higher ISOs.
