Why does my A7s shut down or turn off after 30 minutes of recording?

I'm shooting an event and after 30 minutes of recording it turns itself off. I look at my files and they are about 11.3 gb for each file before it turns off. I am using a PNY Card 64gb.

Has anyone had this problem?

My guess: it stops recording because of the 29 minute limit, then it shuts off because of your standby limit configuration

Which is the kind of nonsense I'd rather not hear from a company I otherwise admire recently.

The manual states that maximum recording time is 29 minutes and 59 seconds to keep the camera from overheating.

Any other reason given is speculation on their part.

One second more and they would have to pay higher import taxes in Europe. And the camera doesn't overheat at all. But it's overheating. #noway

You have to admit...the tax thing just isn't as cool as potentially bursting into flames. 30 min and it goes nuclear is way more exciting.

That's a good point...
Nobody wants to buy a boring camera. "This one could kill you if we allowed it to record just one more second" sounds exciting.
