why does each C300 file need it's own folder???

Just trying to understand the capturing process from the C300. It seems that every C300 clip I record gets put into a folder with four other files: CIF, SIF, XML, and MXF.XMP. Apart from the XMF video file, are all these other files really needed?

Why is it that every clip I record gets put in its own folder? So that recording 20 or 30 clips produces 20 or 30 folders. Is this normal?

I'm just trying to understand the correct way to copy the files from my C300 into my mac pro desktop to use in Premiere Pro CS6.

Should I just be dragging and dropping the root folder "CLIPS001" from my CF card and renaming it?

Thanks in advance for your help.

That structure needs to remain. You should copy the top level <contents> folder.

Canon C300 uses FAT32 format which has a max size of 4GB.

If you record and the file size is under 4gb it creates a clip named folder with the clip inside.

If you record continuously for say an hour, you end up with a clip named folder and the segmented sub clips in that folder. In the NLE it sees all those subclips as one single clip.
