Why do you guys call this a 1080p model??

I haven't heard this being discussed for the HVX, but Gabriel's a Panasonic employee, so if he says so, then I am all the more jazzed about it. That would be incredibly awesome. People have been asking for firmware updates for cameras for years and years, and as far as I know it's never been possible on a modest-priced camera. That would be a breakthrough feature for the HVX -- let's hope Gabriel is right and that it can do it!

I couldn't agree more. If it's just a matter of QA to make sure there's no glitches in the firmware as far as reliability, then skip the oddball ones and offer a free firmware upgrade to speed the release. I personally would think something like this would be better for them to just include at release if they do plan to include it. Unless of course they could update it through P2, Firewire, or USB.

Again, I EXPECT to have same functionality in terms of firmware upgrades on the HVX. This is not an official statement, it is a personal opinion based on waht I know about both products (SPX and HVX). It will not be something accesible to end users, you will have to take the camera to an authorised service center. As with the SPX, I'm pretty sure that HVX will be a Linux box, based on the same type of engine. What will be the exact features we'll find out when the camera comes out, at this stage I don't know more than you (not even an official release date).

NZ,
sounds very good to me and would make firmware updates kind of a natural development path. Pretty smart if Panny will opt for such a solution. Even if it will cost some money to have new firmware installed by a licenced technician.
Please let the deveopment team know about the thread here, I do hope it can support the idea within Panasonic.
