Why did I decide to go with the T3i instead of the new censor on the D5200?

Bruno what picture profile are you using with the d5200?
Nikon Neutral with sharpening down to 0.
Just a precision for the frame : There're many indirect light because it's along the river Seine. But anyway it's a very impressive DR.

Just default with only sharpning changed nice. How hard is it to get focus at 0 sharpning? I found it a little bit of trouble in the LCD screen so I use 1 sharpning

That's why I am not giving up on Nikon, they have come a long way as far as picture quality. They are just taking too long to address some serious issues. Now the D5200/D7100 have manual audio, light meter in live view, and a very nice sensor. Nikon just needs to fix the aperture problem, add histogram or better yet a waveform and zerba in live view to make it competitive with canon for videographers.

I own a D3100 and a D5100 and both allow me to change f-stops in live view when not recording, the d5200 is a set back as far the aperture is concerned. You must not be a D5100 owner!
Please do your homework before spreading more misinformed claims of this type.

Yeah I only use 1 nikon lens with a aperture in camera, but would kill for waveform and zebras!
You can take a picture and then use the color balance filter to see a histogram. Not ideal, but not horrible either. BUT THAT EFFING SQUARE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LIVEVIEW IMAGE... SOMETHING has to be done about it!

dxomark's measures are all for RAW stills, the camera won't give you anything close to that in video mode, it has around 3 stops less DR in video than in RAW stills
still one of the cheap DSLRs with the most DR, and probably the one I'd buy today if my current camera fell into a river; but nowhere near 13.5 stops

@ReelFilmGeek
I don’t like sharpening. It’s not about sharp. It’s a micro-contrast increase. I think it’s ugly. You’re right, it’s hard to get focus on a 3 inch screen. Sometimes I get the right focus, sometimes I don’t.
@ Samuel H
I Know dxomark measures DR for raw stills. You’re right DR is less for video. I’m not sure, it’s about 3 stops less.
Dxomark measures for raw stills: 5DII: 11.9 / 7D: 11.2 / D7000: 13.9
Zacuto Shootout 2011 gets for video: 5DII: 11.2 / 7D: 11 / D7000: 10.2
Big difference for D7000 but small difference for Canon. What difference for the D5200 ? That’s the question. I don’t know the answer. But I know the D5200 DR for video is very impressive and much much better than I got with my 550D during 3 years I use it.

I don't know if I'm serious, but I'm really impressed by the D5200's Toshiba sensor.
DXOMark give 13.9 Evs for D5200 vs 11.5 Evs for 600D. OK I know it's for still. But video it's not very far. https://www.dropbox.com/s/7cwnstut3qbxzjw/D5200 DR.jpg?v=1rc-s
Look the picture here. It's not a still. It's a frame of my FCPX timeline after grading. What do you think about DR. I use a 550D during three years. You can't get this DR with a Canon.

The DR looks pretty nice, but what picture style were you using on your 550D to compare to? I can absolutely believe that the D5200 sensor is better than the Canon, the APS-C Canons are not that impressive. But with the right picture style, the Canons can have halfway decent DR as well.

Interesting. Very soft image but great DR! Makes me want a 5200!

I was using only neutral picture style on my 550D. I tested Technicolor cinestyle and I think it increases nothing but it destroys much things. You can check my test here:
