Why can't SD cards replace p2?

HMC150 video test with HPX170

HMC150 video test with HPX170

I did a HMC 150 Comparison with an HPX170 on a green screen. Audio only from the 150. The p2 had no problems. The AVCHD footage breaks up every now and again. I didn't post the worst. This test has steered me away from the 150 as stand alone camera.

I've shot a ton of green screen and haven't seen anything like that with both HVX200 and the 150. So much so, that I sold the HVX and am going with the 150.. but you are right, they do match very well in the image. I have seen the codec hit a few snags in some very difficult situaitons but not in a very unpleasant way and I might be the only one who notices it. I think the 150 is a fine stand-alone cam and have seen a real shift in terms of being able to shoot and shoot and shoot without the P2 restraints. I haven't regretted the purchase at all. I do think that the 150 has a wee bit less color info so I tend to bust it a bit more but overall it's been a highly robust cam. I've put about 150 hours of footage through it and at an operational cost of 1/3 of what my comperable P2 set-up cost me.. so if one in a 1000 things it doesn't do as well, I'll gladly take the price savings.

Very nice comparison BTW and thanks for taking the time. I do think the 150 is a solid B cam if you see disgrepancies then stick with the 170 but the 150 is good in other applications.

Nice test. The 150 looks very close to the 170, I would go with the 150 unless I was specializing in juggling production.
