Hey is it true that there are no speed limits in Montana?

Tried it, didn't work, back to posted limits.

I was pulled over in Montana several years ago when they had no posted limits and I said to the cop, "I thought there was no speed limit." He said, "There is, 'Reasonable and Prudent.'"

Mr. Squatch, I believe you were the victim of species profiling.

Il est p'têtre temps de penser à l'indépendance, les gars... Quitte à être détesté autant que ce soit pour des raisons valables !!! :) Et, puis y'a des chances que vous vous en tiriez aussi bien. Small is beautiful.

That really funny Jarred, if you change the word Canada by France, it works too !!
May be with less people in jail because here you can't buy guns.
It much more easier to buy alcool !

Well, to be complete I have to add that legal time work in France is 35 hours per week and you have 5 weeks of holidays (it's a minimun).

But don't worry, it's not heaven or even paradise !!

What is the Canadian/Quebec issue? I didn't realize there was one.

Educate me!

Hey John, it will take a couple of beers  if we start to talk about this issue. :)

I have to go to the airport, my nephew is arriving from France. Next time.

What would be "reasonable" is for the police to stay off my hairy ass, and what would be prudent would... be... to, um... I got nothing.

Along with terrific night life and great Jazz.. Particularily in old Montreal around the Theatre St. Denis.

I don't think there is a real issue, It's just that every few years some hardcore Qubebec people decide they want to become their own country and depart from the rest of Canada. So every few years they all get together and have a vote wether the majority want's to go or stay. So far the separatists have come up short. Who konows one day they may well leave! If that happened, you can be sure there would be a lot of Quebec Canadians who would be realy pissed. The sad part of the issue is that some Canadians look at Quebec as being bad asses because a few want to leave. To me it's a no brainer....If they go, they go, and my life will continue as it always has. This concludes Mino's Quebec issue educational course 101............ And of course there is waaaaay more to the issue than that, but that's the general idea in a nutshell!

yeah John long story.. This is how someone just explained it to me.. remember not my words so don't yell at me:

"Quebec has a issue that they speak French and nobody else in Canada does, and they cry to the Canadian government to force all products sold to have French labels and give them special privileges. The Federal Government had enough in the 80s and started throwing all their issues out of court and threatening them of treason. There was also alot of terrorist activity directed towards the English. Quebec then felt like Canada was not French friendly so they have tried multiple times to become their own country, and separate from Canada. Unfortunately most people realize that there is not enough industry in Quebec to support itself as it acquires a high yearly dept to the federal government. There was some threat that USA would try to invade and take over Quebec if they became indy, but the USA denied this claim as "Quebec has no value to the United States". France Doesn't support Quebec because the Quebecois? slaughtered the French language and made it sound ugly. So they are now just coasting along as part of Canada.

Now I don't know much about the issue but some of those facts i would expect to be wrong., as the guy that just explained it to me pretty much doesnt like Quebec all that much.

So I dont know, maybe there is no issue just high-school behavoir by alot of people. Personally, I think Montreal is one of the most gorgeous cities in Canada, and I think French is one sexy language.

The only thing I can remember was back in high school when Quebec was talking about building a big wall around the province, and Some Canadian Government guy told them to go for it so they could fill it with water and use quebec as a big tourist lake. It was pretty funny, but now that i think about it I dont think it was a very nice thing to say.

I never heard that French people don't support Quebecois. In fact, the only person I heard who didn't support Quebecois was one of my teacher last year and he was ... Quebecois !!

Quebec and France have strong links but we don't forget that Quebec is a part Canada.

Here, a significant part of people are interested to leave the country and make their life in Quebec : "The American way of life in french !!"

Btw, The only negative thing I heard, is that Ottawa is installing an significant part of the new english speaking people coming in Canada in Quebec.

The idea is to make the french speaking people less and less important especially for the independance question. Is a new emigrant wants to separate ? Of course, not.
Is it true ? I don't know.

Concerning the language, the accent is as different as an Texan and a British but in the fact, the slaughter was done by the french who include for example english words in our "everyday" speaking. " C'est trop fun :) ".
Quebecois are more rigourous and they made an interesting reform of the language. We must too because french spelling and grammar are too complex.

Personally, the only thing that i've noted is that an country with two officials languages don't work very well. There is a lot of problems in Belgium for example...

Actually, that's complete bogus. Quebec is the only province where newcomers kids HAVE TO attend French-speaking schools unless their first language was English. So, if you come from majority of the world, tough luck. In case of mixed marriages (linguistically), the mother tongue decides. There was even a case before Quebec Supreme Court a few month ago that upheld that, IIRC

In ROC (rest of Canada), kids can attend either English or French language schools, parent's free choice.

I don't care either way, just wanted to clarify.

I've been to Montreal a few times, always had a great time. I've been to Quebec City twice - it was allright. The rest of the province - where I had a chance to visit - is simply georgeous, and I found most people reasonably friendly when you take into account that the only phrase I know is 'Je t'aime' (I doubt I got the spelling right).

Oh - and you can't buy guns in Quebec (legally), or the rest of Canada, any easier than you could in France - I suspect. We are not America, even though sometimes I wish we were... no offence to anyone with strong patriotic feeling.

Thanks, Jerry. I was telling what a Quebecois said to me some years ago. It was after the last referendum, if I remember...

The spelling is right !! :)

Ah, l'amour !

Weird you cannot buy weapons. Can you not buy them in Canada? Is that what you are saying?

I found some interesting soundbites online:

"Outside of Quebec, there was evidence of a high level of patriotism
with over 85% of Canadians saying that they are deeply attached to the
country and what it stands for. In the province of Quebec, only
one-third of the population and only 20% of the francophones, displayed
this level of affection for Canada."

http://www.studyworld.com/newsite/ReportEssay/SocialIssues/GlobalIssues%5CQuebec_Issue.htm

The issue of reconciling Quebec's francophone heritage with the majority anglophone Canadian population has moved to the back burner in recent years; support for separatism abated after the Quebec government's referendum on independence failed to pass in October of 1995.

It appears the Accord dies when Manitoba and Newfoundland would not support it?

Have the separtist' considered "Moving to France"? :cheesy:

So your Quebec is like our Texas (Some Texnas want to be their own 'Entity')

Here's a newsflash: NEVER GONNA HAPPEN

ah, ah, ah :)

I'm sure the separatists will quickly regret if they come here and will come back to Quebec asap. And they want their own country and not emigrate.

Don't ask us too much, we are already having Celine Dion here when she's not in Vegazzz !!!

Yes you can buy guns in Canada, I don't own any cos I've no need to. It's hard to hunt moose without a gun (you can't wrestle then to the ground that easily) I think It is a little harder to aquire firearms in Canada vs US, but I'm no authority on the matter. Here in Vancouver the Gangs seem to be getting guns from someplace, though not through regular channels I doubt. I have a friend who's a prospector and he was allowed a handgun, 45, for protection against bears. It seems to me you have to have a good reason to own specific weapons up here. We don't seem to have the same right to bear arms in our constitution as our southern brothers and sisters.

Wait a minute, what's the bickering for.... Hocky is back, Molson is still in business, you got it made...
