Why bother with the HPX500?

If the hvx200 is good enough to intercut footage with the Varicam, then is there any reason to buy an hpx500?

Better low light sensitivity, higher-resolution CCDs, interchangeable lenses, the ability to shoot NTSC and PAL, better in-camera image control and better focus assist come to mind.

HPX has higher res CCDs?

i though they were the same config as the HVX 960x540 pixelshifted?

amazing.

Im really thinking about dumping the HVX and getting a HPX w/ LetusEX b4 relay..... Soooooo drooling over that.

Gulp, I've just done a muilticam with the HPX500 with big lens and 4 HVX200, I tell you what I just couldn't see the difference! And this was a stage peformance.

That's not to say there isn't a huge difference in most conditions - I cut it together and it worked well.

I think the sensivity of the HPX was eaten up by the 33x lens though!

I'm getting a demo of the HPX this morning. Had my HVX for a year now...the only thing I don't like about it is that I worry about clients taking me seriously. I think there's something to say for a full-size ENG camera in the professional world. Along with all of the other positives mentioned above...

Well coming from the big camera betacam world, my clients like the more discrete and slimmer technological approach.

It's not been a problem for us. They kind of expect things to be getting smaller and I can sure as hell get better shots on the whole with the type of work we do - and that's from nearly 10years of shoulder busters!

If you are worried about 'size', just dress up your HVX with rods, matte box and follow focus. It looks a lot more serious then, especially to clients ;-)

I think Panny should sell an HPX500 shell for like $500. We could put the HVX inside of it. Then we would be the MAN!

Sensitivity, lenses and depth of field. For those of us in the documentary/EFP style shooting world, it makes all the difference.

Plus ease of manual control. It's much more than size.

what does the hpx 500 retail for?

I recently shot with an hpx 3000 on loan from panasonic---WOW! what a camera. Great low light and just beautiful image. 2.2k res. if i recall.

Yeah... it's identical to the F900 pixel wise.... 2.2 Megapixels; the 900 is 3:1:1.... so the 3000 (4:2:2) definately has it beat there. And the D5 comparable AVCIntra format, far above HDCam.

The 500 retails for $14,000; body only.

Does anybody have any HPX3000 footage I can see, at full res.?.... My only worry about the HPX3000 is lack of variable framerates.

In addition to the the aforementioned reasons, also:

-SDI output, so no more component headaches
-real TC syncing
-some find the shoulder mount form-factor to be easier to operate handheld

And the reason I didn't buy the HVX200: PAL/NTSC switchability .. the HPX500 is a world camera, the HVX200 isn't.
