Why are red tracking markers used on green screens for big budgeted hollywood films?

I noticed that a lot of behind the scenes for big hollywood movies show greenscreen with red tracking markers. Is there a reason red is used. I know you can mask out the red tracking markers later...but what about when it intersects with someones hair or skin? Isn't the color red harder to key out with skin?

I think the benefit of having nice clear contrasting markers for accurate tracking outweighs the disadvantage of removing them in post.
 
Its probably a more red closer to neon, or florescent. Anyhow, its just for cleaner and clearer tracking.
Sure it can be an issue when the marker intersects with clothing or hair... but thats minor.
Im sure, if the actor is more red in color, they use a different color marker...
 
yeah, it's for the CG department to match the camera move with locked points on the plate. Even if there is an intersect, they have the junior artists rotoscoping the heck out of every frame. A few of my friends were doing that for the first few months at studios here in LA. But they got to work on Thor, The Avengers, Ironman 2, and a few other blockbusters.
 
First thought..........red and green are polar opposites. Always questioned using the standard white/black targets as slightly inefficient.
 
pedant mode on - cyan is the opposite of red, and magenta is the opposite of green - as in the colour components i.e. there is no magenta in green or no cyan in red.
