i would like to know this too. there is no sense for a feature film director to buy a camcorder, other than for private homevideos. but it would be cool anyway!

The three directors mentioned came from a post by Jan. The rest is through firsthand reports by users here and posts that have been made here.
 
Steven Soderberg used an XL-1 to shoot much of "Full Frontal." I wouldn't be surprised if his HVX was used for more than "home videos."
 
I've heard Coppola during filming in Romania wanted to return all the cameras to Sparks and finished the project with digital camera... with the HVX200? I wonder if you delete this one as well. BTW the cold war is over man, you don't have to start it again.
 
I'm pretty willing to bet that these guys didn't buy the cameras... they are probably comps. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
