Who Will be Buying the new E-Series P2 Cards?

I'm curious to hear from my DVXUser buddies.

E-Series 32GB sounds pretty nice now. And remember, you don't have to use your P2 cards every day... I think I'll keep my 16GB cards for weekly use. And use the 32GB for a few monthly long-form shoots.

What will you do?

I'll buy them, and use them in the same manner that I use the other cards in my kit. Long before these cards 'wear out' they will probably be in the bottom of my AKS bag with the 4GB, & 8GB cards that are now just back-up... or possibly in the dead equipment room in my basement along with the ARRI 16M, Med format film cameras, DVX, BetaCam etc.

These are just part of my working toolbox, that is in a constant state of upgrade.

I'm going to grab a 64 in the coming months. For $988 it's a great deal. I'll use it exactly the same way. I think people are getting all worked up over nothing.

I ordered 2 of the 32's from Spec-Comm the minute they began taking orders.
I'll be ordering a couple of 64's as we get closer to the availability date.

Any objection to the price of shooting to this (bulletproof) medium should now be pretty much "out the window."

I'm definitely getting a 64GB one. As much as I do use my cards I don't use them daily so the life span doesn't concern me. And to have that much recording time at that price is great.

It is great to hear back from all of you.

I'm surprised by the high number of 64's you guys are after. I'm curious wether you will just use one large card, or together with other smaller cards. Will you sell your smaller cards immediately?

I think these new cards will get people to shoot more footage. Every time Emmy Award-winning shooter/producer Tom Siegel gets in contact with me, he mentions some great advice: " Just make sure you roll early and roll late". That was a hard thing to do when 4GB P2 cards were the only option.

I already own two 16s and four 8s. No, will definitely NOT be selling my existing cards, I need all of the card space I can afford. I have been shooting a lot of multicamera shoots, I would rather rent another camera and use all of my cards than rent cards. Also, with 192GBs total of P2 storage, shooting projects in 1080 becomes feasible or all day b-roll shoots become easier than they are now.

Good stuff all around no matter that the shooting situation. Nobody ever complained about having too many P2 cards! ;-)

I have one 16GB and two 4GB cards at the moment. I won't be selling mine either. It's a lot of recording time. Even if I'm shooting in 1080 it's another 24 minutes. I made a feature only using those so the 64GB will be awesome. Once I get that one and with the cards I already have it also means that I can stop telling clients that I need to allow so many number of times to dump throughout the day. I can just shoot.

I plan on getting at least one 32gb card. I have 2 16's right now. I came close to dancing a jig when I saw they announced the E series cards at half the price point.

We just did a 3 (HVX) camera interview today and fortunately we shot 720 24pn. Normally we don't.
We used 2-32's, 1-16 and 4-8 gigers. I'll definately be pickign up at least a couple 32's. I'm only slightly concerned about the one time the e-series card fails.

Once I finally get some downtime with my camera to send it in to fix that annoying P2 beep, then I'll definitely spring for a 64GB. I've got a 16GB and four 8GB cards, but I rarely use the 16GB card because of the beep. I only bust it out if I'm doing a lot of off-speed stuff. I'm almost always shooting 720 24PN so there's never been many space limitations for me with my current setup, but I'm excited to now be able to shoot 1080 without worry once I get the bigger cards. Great job, Panasonic.

Once I get that one and with the cards I already have it also means that I can stop telling clients that I need to allow so many number of times to dump throughout the day. I can just shoot.

Been there so many times! They kind of look at me like, "are you serious?" but once they see what I am up to with the cards and drives, they get it. But not having to do it will be heaven.

I did a shoot in the UK for two weeks by myself with ten 16 GB P2 cards. It was so nice to just hop on a train, travel from area to area and just shoot. No computer, no drives, left all of that stuff in the hotel room. Dumping tha cards at night was fine, I could watch TV, talk on the phone while the cards were dumping and the drives were cloning. I am looking forward to being able to do that again.

Can't wait for August.

I will be picking up at least one of the 64 GB cards maybe two depending on how funds are when they release. Alternatively I may just get 2-4 of the 32 GB cards if the right project presents itself before August.

Like many of the others I am looking forward to either offloading less or leaving the computer at home entirely.

I have a 32GB and 2 16GB "R" cards - can you uses the "R" and "E" in tandem? Like if I put a 64GB E into Slot 1 and had the 32GB R in Slot 2.

Thanks for all the feedback guys :) I'm glad to see DVXUser rocking like it's 2005.

As for P2, I'm looking at getting a new 32GB for personal use. I'll also be keeping my original 4GB and 8GB cards because they've been really useful. For large projects I'll continue to rent higher-capacity cards. Packing two 64s into the HVX200 is really awesome!
