Who wants to see some of my new Mini35 footage?

The sound is on the left channel because we only hooked it up to input 1 XLR. No audio mixing has been done yet.

The director wanted a dark subdued or "hopeless" feeling for the doctor/nurse scene to show the overall mood I guess. Most of the film is kinda dark except for when the old japanese lady meets the bulimic girl...

The music is from the soundtrack OLDBOY.

Oldboy is an excellent film! And the score is equally amazing, I listen to it alot. Your mentioning of that has made me download the video (I no doubt would have anyway, just not so quickly & excitedly hehe)

I'll edit this post with some comments when it downloads.

I REALLY like this. Great lighting Norm! And of course the depth of field effects and acting are on par.

Cheers,
"She's your sdaughter TOO!"

Great acting, lighting, choice of audio, composition ... well done! (Just get rid of that fishing line holding the paper crane and your set. - oh and complete the final mix on the audio too)

again, quality work here Norm - I really like the offset compositions and the dramatic side lighting on the parents. Nicely done!

Hi Norm!
Great footage you have there ;-)

Could you tell us which were your DVX100 image settings? (24P?, shutter, cinegamma, and so on)

Also: di you touched it on post or is it raw straight out of the camera?

Thx!
L

Thanks guys.

Luis, I used 24PA, and various shutter settings (to compensate for the lack of light...) sometimes I used 1/24th (although I didn't want to) and I used 1/48th, and 1/60th (when enough light was available). Cinegamma_V, Detail -3 to 0, various colour temps, master ped between -5 and -3, chroma -7, cine matrix, thin. The footage was touched up a bit in post in terms of saturation (de-) and contrast.

Hope that helps a bit,

Norm

Beautiful!!! The visuals are breathtaking and I loved the atmosphere. Very inspiering Good work Norm!

Thanks =) Yep, a pretty suped up DVX haha. Yep, you can go handheld on it. The only thing that sucks is that you can't look into the viewfinder or LCD. You have to look at a monitor hooked up a few feet away to judge composition. It's pretty heavy though. What you see in the pictures is about 14-16 pounds or so?

You could see what you were shooting on the camera if you had one of those little LCD monitors hooked on the DVX. Still it looks like a total monster to do any hand held shots with. Very good stuff BTW. Lighting was kickass.

Very nice! I like the grainy texture of the background. =]

But the audio is out of sync.
Im using QT 6.5

Drew, that's true... if I had a magic arm with a LCD monitor swooping down for me to see during a handheld shot, that would work and not to mention add some more muscle definition in my arm! haha :)

saturos, thanks! oh, it's out ot sync? that's strange, mine is fine... I'll have to look into that.

cheers

Really fine work, Norm! Sets a high bar for us all.

I would have liked to seen more detail in their eyes (for emotion's sake), but the shadows were, as you said, a stylistic choice. Also, I noticed what looks like de-interlacing in some frames, although you shot 24pa. Am I seeing things?

Top notch!

Wow , that looks awesome,

Hey where did you rent your stuff from, and how much was the mini 35?

Norm, I like this footage you gave but some of the works on your website is suuuuuuupaaaaaaarb man! I love the Emergency room and the Number 6 video. I really think everyone should check that out by just clicking the portfolio on his site.

So are you saying that you used external mic for the audio in your projects? What mic do you use and in the number 6 music video, how did you do the slow mo men, that was hot!
