Who uses DR-100 and/or H4N

ok, but basically it appears to look like the tascam would cause less trouble with drifting.. right?

I'm not sure anyone could definitively answer that? How long are you recording for......hours? I don't own either, but I will be buying the Tascam because it has better level control. I will also send a feed out of DR into GH2 so that in many scenarios the sound in the GH2 will be perfectly fine. Make sure the frequency is the same in both, ie: 48khz. I haven't even checked what the GH2 records at but I assume it's 48k. Shouldn't be a big problem unless you're recording hours on end. But I haven't fully tested, but I'm not worried about it.

I just did a 20 minute test with the h4n and a tm700. I fed the line out into the TM700 with an attenuated cable. I matched the files up in FCP afterwards and at the 20 minute mark the audio was off my only one frame. For my applications, this is negligible, especially since the actual file recorded by the h4n is just back up, and I will be using the audio attached to the clip that comes out of the TM700.

I use both the Zoom and Tascam and can confirm that the Tascam doesn't drift at all. For me the 1 frame per 20 minutes of the Zoom was annoying enough to stop using it, I still think it was 1 frame per 10 minutes. I will do a side by side test and post results soon. The zoom was created for musicians and a 1/24s drift in 20 minutes is unacceptable for making music as well.

I considered the DR-100, and it seems superior to the h4n in many ways, EXCEPT for one major feature: 4 track recording! What an odd thing to leave out, especially with 4 on board mics. It seems liek something that could be changed with a firmware update... if they ever do, I will switch.

The DR100 is just Tascam's 2 channel version, they also have 4 and 6 channel versions, so if you need 4 channels, they have it, but it's another device than the DR100. Check out their website. Also the DR100 doesn't have 4 onboard mics, the Zoom either as far as I know. So there's nothing odd about the DR100, it's a great device.

Whoa, a little touchy about our field recorders eh? Sorry, I still find it odd that this feature was left out. Also, unless this isn't the device we're both talking about, it DOES indeed have 4 onboard mics.

Can you link to the models that have 4-track recording? I can only find the 8-track recorder for $800
