C100: Who finds the EVF on the C100mkII passable for judging critical focus?

i own a C100 and mostly use a DP4, or a SmallHD monitor 5.6 or 7.7 when convenient.

like most I've found the C100's EVF is not very useful and arguably a joke.

last week i finally got to check out the newer C100mkII. i don't plan on buying it for lack of 4k but hope its successor has 4k and i suspect that the EVF might very well be the same or similar.

yes, its better than my old C100 but not near as functional as my DP4 IMO. i was very disappointed to say the least since i was hoping in the future to slim down and not have an attached EVF.

is the C100mkII's EVF the same as the original C300?

id like to hear some opinions as to this EVF on critical focusing.

ok. so i see you guys are cool with it.

let me ask you this then...would you "ever" be compelled to attach an EVF like the SmallHD or any other quality EVF at any time or go 100% with the internal EVF?

I know a lot of people dog on the c100 vf, and I'm certainly not using it to judge accurate color. However when you enable b&w with peaking when you use the magnify button, it is totally usable for focus. I use it like this all the time when I go light and don't want an extra monitor.

are you talking about the original C100? i was speaking of the C100mkII with much improved EVF.

Mk2 VF works fine and much better than the Mk1. I was just hoping for a little more to be honest. Though perhaps that is my opinion because I am of the "LCD generation."
 
It's perfectly usable for everything, focus, exposure, framing and shooting. I always shot on the C300 without the top LCD at all actually (C100 II shares the same EVF module with the C300 and C500)

The A7s EVF is better (bigger mostly not necessarily better) but not movable.

All in all yes it's good can be relied on, unlike the useless MK I version.
 
I was an XF300 video camera owner for a few years and recently rented the C100 MKII for s shoot. I was a bit disappointed in the C100 MKII's viewfinder. It was "fine" but nothing to write home about imho. The XF300 had the best viewfinder I have ever used and I was expecting this level of quality on the C100 MKII. I have read a few opinions regarding the JVC ls300 viewfinder and how it is "horrible". I can't understand why these non-consumer cameras would ever have a less than excellent viewfinder in 2015. Not an area to skimp on imho.
 
The C series on-board EVF's suck. If you think otherwise, you've probably never used a camera with a real VF. They're good for framing and that's about it. Shoot with an Alphatron, Graticle, F5/55 LCD or OLED, LCD EVF on a true ENG camera and come back and give me your opinion on the C EVF's, then. Heck, even the old SD B&W CRT's on our Betacam's were better. The C EVF's are a step above shooting with your eye's closed.
