Who are some cool and obscure comic book characters that are deserving of a movie?

I remember years back talks of making a Savage Dragon movie. I liked the character, but can't see how a major studio wouldn't completely screw it up.

I think there should be a moratorium on super hero movies for at least five years, I think the collective public needs a break.

I agree on the moratorium, but more like a decade. We may get our wish. Both Green Hornet and Green Lantern were flops. Hornet getting some pretty awful reviews, and Lantern alone lost over $100m at the box office.

We'll see though. Hollywood tends to milk every last tit until the nipple is beyond dry and heavily calloused, even if all the milk is well beyond sour.

Yeah, I'm sure it's a demographic thing. I wish they would take the characters and story more seriously but they aim them at little kids, which is fine/appropriate. Pretty cheesy **** though and all that money thrown at it.

I'm cool with the Dr.Suess animations though.
Sin City was pretty good. At least it was adult oriented.
I don't know. Screw the Green Hornet and the lighting bolt he rode in on.

Rogue Trooper definitely. I was going to say Strontium Dogs but I think they might already be doing it. Even more obscure out of 2000AD, was possibly a one-off: Trashman Trask - an environmental bobby (cop), a lone cop in future the defending the last remaining plants in a world that doesn't care. Also out of 2000AD Luke Kirby was way cooler than Harry Potter and Slaine would make mincemeat of Conan.

I was never a big comic book fan but I always thought the Green Arrow was pretty cool. The old school Green Arrow from the 70s that is. I just read about a character named Deadman. He might make for a cool movie.
Deadman is a ghost, formerly a circus trapeze artist named Boston Brand who performed under the name Deadman, a stage persona including a red costume and white corpse makeup. When Brand is murdered during a trapeze performance by a mysterious assailant known only as the Hook
At the bottom of his Wikipedia page it is stated:
Guillermo Del Toro has taken interest in producing a film of the hero, supposedly from the only source. Bloody-Disgusting has described it as Crow-esque and Nikolaj Arcel is set to direct.

I was going to add Preacher to the list but figured there was no way that could be made (faithfully) in America on the grounds of morality. Then I googled it and found out is was going to be made with James Marsden. I got excited and read further to discover HBO were going to make it into a series, woo! Then read further and read it was canned for being "too stylistically dark and religiously controversial." Damn, I was right the first time...

Anything from Vertigo would be film worthy but that said Neil Gaiman has been getting a lot of movie action (not sure if its tv movie or straight to DVD) of late so I don't know if it counts as obscure anymore. And I'm frankly so-so about the ones I've seen even though they pretty much look and feel exactly like I thought they should. Like Terry Pratchet tv adaptations I think maybe his style is more filmic when its not a film somehow...

@egg --- nice avatar !!!!! The pilot for that series was awesome!

Thanks. And it was and is.

Would love an entire ABC warriors movie.

The only good thing about Stallone's Judge Dredd movie was the cameo by one of the ABC warriors, and the cameo of the Angel Gang (Mean Machine was pretty good actually).

I'm interested to see how the new Dredd movie pans out.

Preacher would be cool if it actually went through to production as either a movie or a mini-series. But because of the religious controversy, if it was ever made in America, I wouldn't expect it to be very faithful, and as a result, I wouldn't expect much greatness from it.

Sandman would also make a pretty cool movie, if done correctly.

My buddy Eric Powell who does The Goon has been trying to get that film green lit for a couple years now. He did have Paul Giamatti attached to it at one point, but not sure where that stands now.
