Shot a campaign for @USAID in response to the Nigerian kidnappings: #letgirlslearn

We had about 20 celebs give a prompter read into camera that will get spliced together.
Denise Richards was the 1st guest in the am, there's more flattering shots of her (she's quite striking) but this is what the DIT grabbed off the cuff.

Original file was a .png, I added a little Unsharp Mask and saved as JPEG, and cleaned up the whites.

Used the C-300 in C-Log:
Richards_Screengrab_AFTER 4.jpg

Should be released on the internet early next week.

Typical ring o' fire + clamshell:

(2) 4x4 Silks cam rt diffusing ARRI 1K open face
(1) ARRI 650 over lens bounced into 4x2 bead board
(1) Inky below lens diffused by 2 layers of 250 and silk
(1) Med Chimera with int baffle diffusing ARRI 650 Cam left
(1) small Chimera diffusing ARRI 300 back light
(2) Kino 2x4 on BG

Hi Bill,

Very nice lighting. I think you should have offered her a cheeseburger because it looks like she's underfed!

But I was wondering, whenever I do that type of lighting set up invariably someone comes in with large glasses they won't take off. So how did you know that among the 20 celebs no one would have glasses causing reflections? That's why I never bought a ring loght.

Thanks,

Ned

Good question Ned.

The truth is we were expecting an A lister to show up who's known to be very critical with lighting, so we lit for her (PM me if you want names).

I personally layed marks down for all the units in case I had to reposition for glasses or any personal requests.
The only talent that arrived with reading glasses was Moby, who obliged us by removing his glasses.
Our prompter operator compensated by switching to a larger font.

Honestly, with this setup, everyone looks pretty darn good. The individual M/U artists and publicists all gave us a thumbs up.

Looks great, and consistent for the 2 cameras and locations.
Shame the audio is inconsistent between the locations, though.

Curious how would you have graded differently, Bill?

I feel some of the flesh-tones are a bit inconsistent. Some look amazing (Josh Duhamel, Anne Hathaway) while others are too magenta and the image is soft (?!)
I'm glad the white background looks consistent throughout.

Great work Bill, This reinforces the message of no matter what camera you used. The message conveyed was very strong.

Was it your choice to front/flat light. Or was it because adding depth and shadows the celebs would have this haha.

Good work Buddy.

It also reinforces the message that doing a gig filming Denise Richards in a studio beats being stuck up the side of a mountain filming in the rain. lol Great job on the piece...very worthwhile cause and message!

Been in both positions : ) Just got back from shooting on a glacier in Alaska with the C100:

And in a freezing river, and on the side of a mountain in the Colorado Rockies, in the rain:
